Wolfram does widgets

Add the computational engine to your site

ANALYTICAL ENGINE Wolfram Alpha is offering web users widgets so that they can offer computational results on their own websites.

The widgets are free and let users add mini applications to their websites, blogs and social notworking webpages, and form part of the firm's plans to make its 'vast knowledge and computational power' available to a wide range of users.

Examples of uses suggested by the firm include an application that calculates the adult weight of a child based on his or her current statistics and another one with the ability to locate an object in the sky. It added that the possibilities are limitless.

There are hundreds of readily available widgets on the Wolfram Alpha website, but the firm said that these are instantly customisable and can be tinkered with to suit any needs.

This is made simpler through a drag and drop builder, which the firm said can let users create their own applications in just a few easy steps.

In a blog post the company added, "We fully expect to be blown away by all of the cool and innovative ways you harness the power of Wolfram|Alpha widgets. Here are just a few ways we want to help you share your use of widgets with the world!" µ

Success

The answer is right. The unit Year is defined as 365 days. Try using the unit "Calendar year" which gives the answer 1461.

or ask for two dates which will take into account leap years, century non-leap years and periods that are not multiples of 4

Fail

Asking Wolfram to compute how many days are in four years it gives the wrong result 1460, in spite of the fact that four years are with rare exceptions sure to have one leap year. Asking for a full century in days also gives the wrong answer 36500.

I notified them more than a year ago and the bad result is still there.
