Firefox 4 will get tab candy

Manage your screen
Mon Jul 26 2010, 10:23

DEVELOPERS at the Mozilla Foundation are testing a new feature called 'tab candy'.

Aza Raskin, who is a big cheese at the Mozzarella Foundation, wrote in his blog that the software is similar to Apple's Expose feature mixed with its Spaces feature.

Mac OS X allows you to zoom out and get a bird's-eye-view of all your windows and you can also arrange open windows in certain spaces so they're clumped together.

Tab candy does the same thing only with tabs. When tabs are organised into a group, you can select that group and see only those tabs you put there.

Any other tabs you have open can't be seen when you are focused on a particular group. You can change the sizes of these groups in the bird's-eye-view mode to highlight certain ones.

You can play with it in the 'super-early' build of Firefox 4 with tab candy by downloading it here.

There is a video of Firebadger 4 running here. µ

Mac OS X Expose Zoom UI for Files

Reminds me of the Raskin.app for Mac where you can organize your files in a similar way: http://raskinformac.com/

yeah right,

YaY, tab groups! because opening a new broswer window instead of just adding the tab to the current window is such a hassle :

keyF11.com

online alternative for all browsers www.keyF11.com
Free, online application (bookmark manager, multibrowser, sticky notes)

Upon signing up, you will receive your very own KeyF11 URL, and by sending the link to others you will effectively be sharing not only your favorite sites in one fell swoop - you will share your insight as far as they are concerned by way of the notes that you have created and attached.

You can share your own address keyF11.com/your_name but
you are not sharing your private panels - these are password protected and hidden from other people’s sight.

You will find your favourite tabs/pages everywhere on your own address without login (Login is only for browsing private panels and editing).

I expect Tab Killer will fix this too.

Weenies have a penchant for wasting screen space with numerous tab buttons for windows that they shouldn't have open in the first place because no one can keep track of more than 7 or 8 items at a time. So they attempt to "organize" the unnecessary clutter, meaning spending time managing windows and their placement. And *then* wonder why they're continually busy but not actually getting anything done.

By the way, if you had REXX built into your primitive "Windows" systems, you could have a desktop icon for groupings of sites often viewed plus do logic to only open some on certain days.
