BEANCOUNTERS at Isuppli are predicting an increase in shipments of Ipads.
Isuppli predicts Apple will ship 12.9 million Ipads in 2010, an increase from the previous forecast issued in April for 7.1 million units. Isuppli thinks Ipad shipments will rise to 36.5 million in 2011 and 50.4 million in 2012.
Rhoda Alexander, director of monitor research for Isuppli said that the Ipad is shaping up to be the 'Tickle Me Elmo' of the 2010 holiday season, with product demand expected to vastly exceed available supply.
Apple has hiked its Ipad manufacturing goals to suppliers across Asia.
Isuppli thinks that Ipad success will depend how quickly Apple responds to supply problems .
Fortunately for Jobs Mob, Isuppli's latest research indicates there is higher production than previously expected for LCD panels and NAND flash, which Isuppli says are crucial. µ
I highly doubt you will see 36.5M iPads sold in 2011. In reality, I think the product has already saturated the target market of non-thinking Apple Fanboys so I would expect continually slowing sales. I have yet to see anyone with an iPad that did not already own 2 or 3 other Apple products. In talking with those that do not own Apple gear, I have not heard anyone express interest in owning one. I think the 'tablet craze', although slightly more successful than AppleTV, will suffer the same fate as they run out of consumers with more money than brains. The only way this will ship a ton more units is if they cut the price in half and it becomes the defacto Home Automation tool...ain't gonna happen.
Except I'd call it "Tickle Me EMO" as more apt, and avoids copyright objections from the supposedly public corporation.
Anyhoo, Jerry Pournelle, of BYTE magazine and apparently some wacky "sci-fi" (actually fantasy) novels too, is yet more enamored of the Ipad since my last mention, for those who like it or can stand it:
