DRAM MAKER Nanya has increased the number of wafers it churns out at its new 12-inch fab to 40,000 per month.
According to Digitimes, half of the production has been converted to the 50nm process.
Nanya wanted to expand capacity at its 12-inch fab to 50,000 wafer starts a month by the end of 2010 from the previous 30,000 units, so it looks like the fab will hit that target.
The company has also managed to meet its target of shifting more than half of its 12-inch chip production to 50nm by the end of the third quarter.
Nanya needs the cash. During the first quarter it made losses from the cost of the process transition. It is fairly likely that its results in the second quarter will also be bad. µ
