We cannot renounce the use of force otherwise a peaceful reunification would be impossible - China's Jhian Xemin on Taiwan
FRUIT THEMED TOYMAKER Apple has issued a software update for the Ipad claiming that it, like the Iphone 4, will see an improvement in wireless performance thanks to some lines of code.
The Ipad WiFi story, like the device itself, is almost a mirror image of the Iphone 4. Soon after the cappuccino company launched its Iphone without a phone, users complained that WiFi reception was poor, resulting in frequent disassociations with access points. Though the Ipad, unlike the Iphone, did not have a revolutionary wrap around antenna, Apple's response was identical - willful ignorance.
According to the latest software update that brings the device up to Iphone OS 3.2.1, users can expect "improved Wi-Fi connectivity". That's good to know, given that for the majority of Ipad users wireless networking is the only way to get data onto the device. As usual Apple does a bang-up job of using a vague description to pump up a product.
The firm claims to have "fixed" and "addressed" issues pertaining to copy and paste in emails and the reliability of a video dongle that it forces users to fork out £25 to buy.
But wait, there's more. Users fed up with Google's search performance can now choose Microsoft's Bing. Please forgive us if we need a few hours down the pub, as our heads are spinning from hearing of such a revolutionary feature.
The maker of Ithings seems to think software can fix its hardware problems. It's amusing, bordering on the embarrassing, to realise a company that is proclaimed as technology leader by the mainstream media believes fundamental design faults can be washed away with a few lines of code. µ

This is a good write-up on how to fix the WiFi issues on the iPad.

As the professional writer that you are, I would have thought that brand names would be written properly. iPad, iPhone, Apple, Microsoft Windows. I wouldn't write Ipad, Iphone, apple, MicroSoft windows. Do you guys have a review process? Maybe I was wrong about the professional part.
Thanks once again to Lawrence "Perez Hilton" Latif.
Dearest Steve and Jacob,
Here are a list of "distortion fields" I have run through today:
Imperial leather shower gel
Arm & Hammer
Tescos
Sainsbury
Nero Coffee
Evan's Bicycles
Commercial Television
The Sunday Observer newspaper
Commercial radio
Heinz Beans
PG Tips tea bags
All these plus the temptation of a million billboards, commercials, leaflets, display stands and promotional offers thrown at my throughout the day. Yet, I decided to buy an iphone I'm a brainwashed fool? I take it you live in caves and have send your posts via the powers of the mind. People who decided to buy a brand are no more brainwashed than those who chose to buy a different brand. Get over it. Also, could we all stop saying fanboy? It's a hideous term. Whose next for that mantle, people who use only Colgate toothpaste?
When are people going to wake up? Apple must surely be brain washing people?
Thats at least twice now that they have released products which dont work properly out of the box!
Then along comes Steve Jobs and his Reality Distortion Field, and announces that he is going to do everyone a huge favour. Yes they are going to "work their butts off" and write some code which fixes the shite antenna design in the iPad. WOW. THANKS STEVE!
Anyone defending Apple is clearly blind, dumb and unable to grasp that they are being sold crap...and badly designed crap at that.
Your bias is so evident that whatever you write is absolutely meaningless.
By the way, what do you use to listen to music? A Zune?
What a dick.
I am a little concerned to read in your article about wifi issues with the ipad, I use mine right across the UK and have never found an issue at any time!!
As for the iphone 4 once again i am very puzzled by the media hype around connectivity issues, again no dropped calls or wifi problems!!
I can not say the same for a few other friends smart phones as they tend to have a lot of problems with frozen screens or poor reception!! There not iphone owners by the way.
Any reports on other companies as vile as this one?? No cant find one myself but there you go!!!

'Fruit Themed Toymaker'?
Do the requirements of an Inquirer journalist include being a bigoted moron as obligatory?
You are so childish, need to grow up and stop being so unprofessional if you want to be taken seriously.
Look at all these fanboy comments!
Great just to see the shameless reaction of the apple defence force.
You tell him guys!
I've never read such an unprofessional article - bias isn't in it... I'm an iPad early user and it's the first Apple device I've owned (bought with my own hard earned) and I'm delighted with it. I bought it as a replacement for my faithful old Toshiba laptop ( which incidentally had to be returned within the first week) running MS Windows which has to be updated every time I turn it on! I've lost count of the number of driver upgrades that have been needed and of the niggles that I've had with the thing.
Wanna know a secret? I've not touched it since I've had the iPad! I'm not against critical review, but it should be well balanced and professional, this article was anything but. It was just a biased rant by a disgruntled nerdygeek!
What's up with this bizarreness calling Apple a 'toymaker' and a 'cappuccino company'? Please tell me that's not meant to read 'Cupertino company', because that's where they're based and they certainly don't make cappuccinos.
And in case you hadn't noticed, it's the second letter of the product name that is capitalised, not the first. It should be 'iPhone' and 'iPad'.
The addition of Bing to the mobile Safari search options isn't meant to be a big, revolutionary feature of iOS 4. It's simply Apple acknowledging that Bing is a decent alternative to Google as search engine. The fact that it's provided by Microsoft, Apple's apparent long-time 'enemy', has nothing to do with it.
Apple has strong relations with both Google and Microsoft. They're competitors, but not enemies. Your sarcastic line about this change is, quite frankly, pathetic.
Finally, from a neutral point-of-view with regard to Apple, I simply can't take an article seriously when it contains such basic errors and needless stabs.
@interested_party learn2use your tools. Double clicking on a word in an address bar does select words. Did you every hold your finger on a word and see the magnifying glass come up with a cursor in it? You can position the cursor exactly where you want without using the sliders.
No search on a web page is true... but everything else is not correct!
I remember people used to hate Microsoft because they were the dominant company in computer software. They still are and people still do. Apple were always the underdog. People Loved Apple. (I have always used Windows because thats what i had at work and it was just simpler to just get used to one OS.)
Now Apple are dominating various areas of technology, Music, Phones, tablet computers, etc and people hate them for it.
WHY????
Apple obviously make great products. before the iphone came a long, i was using a rubbish and slow Samsung phone. Each time i upgraded to a so called "smarter" phone and no matter what manufacturer, i still wasnt happy. Slow, unresponsive and frustrating to use. In the end i ended up buying a basic classic nokia for £30 so it could just work as a phone.
Apple introduced the iphone and this changed everything. I never bought one straight away. But it wasnt until I borrowed an Iphone 2g that i was pleasantly surprised. I tried using HTC Hero and a HD2.. Sorry but they werent as good.. so I ended up choosing to buy an Iphone.
Nokia, samsung, especially Sony Ericson have been making phones for years and they should have been good at it but It takes a computer company new to the phone business to show them how its done. They are all playing catchup and now everyone is making touch screen phones with apps and all that.
I dont "Love" Apple. I love some of their products because they just work, are functional and are a pleasure to use. I cant deny that. its just true.
Maybe people hate Apple because no one really wants to be seen as "following the herd". But it really isnt like that. At the moment, they make the best products. If you dont like them, dont buy them. But why hate on a company just because they are successful or have high priced products? they are obviously successful for a reason People ARE buying their devices!!
Haters probably own some other touchscreen smart phone. Maybe Android based, which is great. There are some good phones out there. They probably havent even tried using an Apple product. But hey, if it werent for Apple, those competing devices wouldnt have been invented FACT.
Anyway, to the point, Apple have released a software update for the iphone. Thats the whole purpose of updates no? Windows updates hello? Great should fix the issue with the bars affecting a few people. Mine works fine anyway but great.
But this article and the "blogger"... Journalist??? please... The BLOGGER is biased. Get a new job mate.
"Lawrence Lartif' - who is this moron 'wannabe'?
You think this is bad, check out what he said about the Iphone!

Your entire report was laced with a distinct distain for apple from the onset. You clearly had your mind made up before you even began to write the article.
Did it possibly ever cross your mind that some users, how ever shocking it may be to you actually enjoy having and using their iPads.
I am one of those such users, and am completely baffled as to why Apple is getting such a slating from the media at the moment. Other TNC's make similar mistakes and yet go unreported. I have a snaky suspicion that with a lot of people there is jealousy imparted on those who buy apple products by their friends. I have been on the receiving end and can confirm it personally.
Perhaps, as a journalist you should stride to report the truth, after all is that not the point of a journalist ? to endeavour to inform the masses about the facts ? Last time i was aware it was anyway, it certainly was not to spread biased, untruthful filth, the word morose springs to mind.
I am a computing Student and I can tell you first hand that Wi-Fi issues can most certainly be corrected with a software update, whereas some may not, obviously the latter refers to iPhone 4.
Some stuff is great. Reading on the web is easy and clear. But some stuff is ridiculous.
There is no "Find/Search" for text on a webpage. But you can buy an app for that.
LMAO.
How can a web browser not have Find/Search for text on a webpage? LOL.
It's not about hating Apple, it's about scratching my head about how a company can get some thing so right and others so wrong.
Another example. Try typing in a web address and then editing it. You can't, at least not easily. Double click a word and it won't select it. Why not when everything else does? Instead we have to drag some sliders left a bit, right a bit, correc the sliders because they are hard to position correctly and I'm used to using a smartphone. And then click on X to delete.
Also no backspace or cursor keys to move around and change the order of 2 letters, a common typo. Back to the dragging sliders around again.
I think that touchpads are a nice evolution but Apple is leaving the door wide open to it's competition by having stupidly annoying basic flaws. I can't wait for the Googlepad/Windowspad/Eeepad.
This article is a great example of why most bloggers will never be seen as journalists. A reasonable point and story totally undermined by the biased comments that are interspersed throughout.
You scoff at a few lines - having updated my iPad, I have noticed quite a difference on my system. You on the other hand, with just a few lines, have demonstrated that since it's Apple, you must hate the product, no matter what - how about instead of critiquing things you'll never understand, like people who actually like the products, and invent your own device that everyone will want - I'm quite happy with Apple - having never bought into the first gen anything from anyone until now - good luck on disguising the hate
