Tiny mobile Modu is launched in the UK

Smallest phone yet

THE ULTRA LIGHT Modu 1 phone will hit the shops in the UK this month.

The Modu 1 is made by an Israeli manufacturer and the company claims it is a Guinness Book of World Records candidate, no less. Not just small, the phone is hyped as the lightest mobile that money can buy.

modu-1-phoneWe're not sure about the Guinness World Record claim but for punters we're guessing it will be a pain to use. Its size is about half the distance from your ear to your mouth, making it impractical unless it's used hands-free. Some things just have to be at least a certain size to be useful.

The Modu 1 phone is as stripped down as they come. It measures 72.1mm x 37.6mm x 7.8mm and has a 1.3-inch OLED display and a built-in speaker. You get 2GB of memory, Bluetooth, an MP3 player and you can even make phone calls with it.

That aside, the Modu 1 also has an array of what we're sure are tasteful interchangeable jacket covers.

"Our launch in the UK with Purelygadgets is an exciting development in Modu's distribution," said Sariel Engel, Modu's VP of sales and business development.

"This partnership will make the Modu phone and Modu jackets available to a new and dynamic market. This is a winning scenario for Modu, Purelygadgets and UK mobile phone customers."

Purelygadgets is selling the phone for £129.99 on its website. µ

Totally disagree . . .

. . . with the above commentors.

I thought the fad of making phones irritatingly small had come to an end and we were finally moving towards nicely sized phones with readable screens.

I'd like to say that the small size is making up for peoples lacking in other departments but evidently it isn't.

Wow

What a terrible article.

I wanted 2 mins of my life reading this tripe and another 2 mins commenting about said tripe.

Too small?

If this phone is too small, then clearly the Nokia 8210 which was sold 10 years ago was far too small too.

The Nokia was 101mm long while the Modu is 72mm, so an inch makes a phone usable compared to one that isn't?

If the 8210 was capable of hearing a user's voice, then the Modu is clearly going to be able to as well.

complete ignorance

The nice person who wrote the article about the Modu doesn't have the foggiest idea about what he was writing about. The
unit shown in the picture is in reality only the main body of a really nice gadget , transformable by incorporating it in the so called "jackets" to a number of different configurations and functionalities.
