CHIPMAKER Intel is keen to get its Sandy Bridge processors into the shops.
According to PC World, Sandy Bridge has been moved up and now will start rolling out of Chipzilla's fabs by September.
If you believe Paul Otellini, Intel's president and CEO, it has been years since he has been so excited by a new product line. Not even the ashtray he made in his executive pottery class got him this excited.
He said Intel has ordered new factory equipment to speed up the 32nm fab rollout so more Sandy Bridge chips can hit the market sooner.
Intel sent samples of Sandy Bridge parts to customers last quarter, giving them a chance to see what the chips can do. Apparently the reviews from customers were really good.
However Otellini declined to say when laptops and desktops with Sandy Bridge chips inside will hit the market. That's not surprising because Intel only makes the chips, not the computers that they go into.
We will see Sandy Bridge CPUs at the Intel Developer Forum (IDF) in San Francisco this upcoming September.
The initial versions of Intel's Sandy Bridge generation chips will be for desktop and laptop computers, not servers. µ

Since there is no other place to post commenets, here goes.
I've been reading the Inq for years, post sometimes too.
However the mouse over LOUD and large adds are making it to much work to read the articles. Your site is 90% crap adds and 10% reading.
If I wasn't at work I would just block the flash, but I am at work and your site just sucks to much to continue.
Most people won't say anything, they'll just read elsewhere. I'm telling you, you've killed your site with adds and it sucks.
and bulldozer didn't quite work out as expected. We'll see if the future will be fusion. :)
No sand in my computer thank you very much. The Future is Fusion.
