Some of Apple's Time Capsules are broken

Free repair or replacement
Mon Jul 12 2010, 12:59

AFTER TWO YEARS of fending off complaints, Apple finally has agreed to sort out some of its dodgy Time Capsule products.

On its support page, Apple admits that some of its Time Capsules sold in 2008 came off the factory line as duds.

"Some Time Capsules sold between approximately February 2008 and June 2008 may not power on or may shut down unexpectedly after starting up."

Naturally, the onus of responsibility is on punters to submit their kit to get it fixed. But Apple at least provides links to shows users how to find the serial numbers on affected models.

The biggest problem users will have with the dodgy machines is potential data loss due to forced shut downs. Apple will provide data transfer options from broken Time Capsules. An Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP) can transfer data to a replacement.

But that service assumes that the data on the Time Capsule hasn't been damaged by the shut down issues. Apple has disclaimed responsibility for such cases.

It said, "As always, Apple recommends that you back up your data. Learn more about other back up options while you are without your Time Capsule. Apple is not responsible for data loss." µ

They've probably....

all been summoned to a secret location by his Jobs, decided to get it over with and have one big suck off. It was always going to end like this.

Where are the Fanbois?

I thought for sure the INQ would have been dogged to hell and back over publicizing more Apple failures; expressly the failure to acknowledge their customers do, in fact, have issues despite the Reality Distortion Field.

@Mogwai

Its a wireless storage device with a built in wireless router from 2008.
Had/has a nasty tendency to die randomly due to PSU faults.

Apple has to admit that they too can make mistakes and instead of being dishonest and claim that their stuff "Just work" when they clearly just don't.

sure

sure, now that they've been tossed in the trash and have no way of getting them back.

I'm curious though, what is this time capsule thingy?

Correct Me If I'm Wrong

But this seems like an issue when they were first purchased 2 years ago. Why has it taken this long to fix a and admit to a fault?

One of the reasons I dont touch Apple products.

Thats a 1 year improvement on the Macbook harddrive fiasco.

Apple seem so scared of bad publicity they sacrifice their users and do not recall goods!

They did the same with the massive Seagate hard drive bad batch.
So no publicity and no doubt most users put shoddy failures down to wear and tear.

And more applause to come for this good service from the lucky 'I'm all right jack' set of users coming soon!
