A HACKER who broke into his former employer's network has been jailed for a year.

Steven Jinwoo Kim, 40, hacked into the company's computers and downloaded files of 150,000 customers. The data, taken in April 2008, included names, social security numbers, drivers licence numbers, billing addresses and dates of birth.

According to the Dallas News, Kim worked for Gexa Energy as a senior database administrator until he was fired three months before the hack. He admitted the charges and accepted that he cost the outfit $100,000 in damages.

Not only will he have to spend a year in prison for hacking but he will also have to write a cheque for $100,000 to repair the damage he did to the company networks. When he gets out he will have three years of probation. µ

Should be a minimum of 5 yrs.

Any hacking crime should require a minimum 5 years in the slammer IMO, just as B & E should.
