MAKER OF BIG TELLIES, LG Electronics has announced that it is beavering away on an Android based Tablet PC.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the idea is that the LG Tablet will be in the shops by Christmas in the hope that it can make a bob or two on Apple's coattails in marketing the concept.

The Apple iFad has been doing better than anyone expected. Now lots of hardware outfits are hoping to make money on the the back of it before people realise that it is a gadget looking for a need.

Google's Android OS is seen as a good potential rival as it has third party apps and is free. Microsoft's Windows 7 could be a rival but will cost a bit of cash to install on any tablet PC.

LG is no stranger to Android. It has released a smartphone, the LG Optimus Z, based on Android 2.2. µ
