Google loses its Chrome OS chief to Facebook
MATTHEW PAPAKIPOS has left Google for Facebook after having been the lead for the search engine company's high profile Chrome OS project.
Tweeting his departure, the former Google engineering director is now Facebook's new director of engineering, according to Papakipos' online resume. With no announcement from Facebook, it is not clear what he will be working on.
In January Facebook talked about its first data center, and Papkipos could be helping with the infrastructrue engineering necessary for that.
Google said, "Matt made great contributions to Google and Chrome OS, and we know he'll do the same in his next endeavours. We wish him the best."
Papakipos' resume says that other than Chrome OS his work at the search engine company included leading a series of teams to work on HTML5, APIs, GPU hardware and a native client project. µ
