Nexus One will get Froyo from today

And can take the ring to Mordor
Tue Jun 29 2010, 10:00

OWNERS OF Nexus One smartphones will start to receive upgrades today to the Android 2.2 operating system, codenamed 'Froyo', as over-the-air software updates on their phones.

This update provides new features including support for making your handset a portable hotspot and support for Adobe Flash within the browser.

A Google spokesperson said that there are all sorts of interesting things under the bonnet of Android 2.2 that make it a worthwhile upgrade.

If you have a Nexus One handset, you will receive a message on your phone's notification bar to access the update. Just download the update, wait for it to install, and you should be all set.

This update will be rolled out gradually and most users will receive the notification by the end of the week. µ

consider this

UK Nexus One owners have pretty much been shafted by Vodafone over updates to 2.2. At this point no planned date to get this update out to us - if you want the open benefits of google steer clear of VF.

Update is live

It works, and I'm neither in the US or Europe but in the Indian ocean. I woke up to see my phone requesting to apply the new update. Everything is working fine so far (probably because most my apps had been updated to support Froyo in the interval between the leaks and the official release)
And it's nice to have flash in your browser even if I don't use it that often. Overall the system feels much snappier and Advanced Task Killer reports 200M free BEFORE killing any apps up from 25M on 2.1

PS: My phone is the unrooted ATT variety aka the one that had no official update yet =]

I've manually applied the latest (apparently final) update that I've downloaded from directly Google, it works great.
(It's called OPENNESS, Fanbois!)

Today?

Can you please point us to where it says the updates start today? We've been told this before.
