Sticky tape fixes Iphone 4 antenna glitch

Apple's bad design gets fixed easily
Mon Jun 28 2010, 09:16

APPARENTLY Steve Jobs' engineering blunder on the Iphone 4 antenna might be rescued by a strip of... sticky tape.

The problem with the Iphone 4 antenna that turned up last week was that if the device was held in the left hand it had trouble getting a mobile network signal. This report has been confirmed elsewhere.

Now it seems that the problem with the Iphone 4 antenna can be resolved with the application just of a bit of sticky tape.

Steve Jobs must be racking his brain to figure out how to flog - at a huge markup, mind you - some 'official' Apple antenna repair kits for the Iphone 4 that contain - wait for it - strips of sticky tape.

Fanbois have also had to put up with Iphone 4s with defective displays while it emerged last week that Iphones are somewhat fragile creations. µ

Exposition

I guess most mobile phones have this problem too, well, most RF devices do.

But no one care about most phones.

Owning an iPhone is kind of owning a Mercedes, only that you can't find that many flaws on a Mercedes.

By Design

Apple know its users will happily part with $20+ for a "magical" bumper, if Steve says so, for which Apple pay next to nothing.

So called "expert"

I love how the "expert" from the linked networkworld article claims that the reception problem is a fact of life, and then goes on to suggest that putting the phone in a case will indeed fix the problem - doesn't this actually suggest it's a design (insulation) flaw and nothing to do with the hand position?!

A design flaw confirmed by the existence of these kits, where some sticky tape (insulation) is sufficient remedy? And that of the youtube video where a door key across the black strip will knock the received signal down to zero, no hand or signal blockage required.

Product recall guaranteed, I reckon. Bummer, as Apple have sold 1.7m iPhone 4s (impressive, but expensive, numbers).

Except it doesn't

This fix does not work very well as indicated by two iPhone 4 users I know. I love it when a $20 rubber sheath can fix a glaring hole in the R&D of the most-hyped "smart" phone on the planet. Seriously with this and facetime, and firewall and other issues, how much R&D did Apple actually do on this "revolutionary"(as in a PHONE that won't make CALLs) device?

duct tape

This just goes to prove that duct tape can be used to fix anything. I'm certain that if nasa were to incorporate it in with the space shuttle, they could extend their program another 10 years.

Well.....just ask your wife

for some transparent nail polish. That should work too and look better. (For everyone without wife or girlfriend: it's available in the shops too)

@Steve Jobs: Just paint some Shellac on iPhone 5, that should do the trick

Duct tape and chewing gum...

Amazing what engineering marvels can be performed with a bit of duct tape and chewing gum...

Cant wait

Cant wait for someone to show me their shiny new iPhoney4 and then I can suggest them get some sticky tape ... after all every £500 bit of tech needs some sticky tape to work, innit?

.. cant wait ... superior craftsmanship ftw!

i cant believe there are still people that doesnt realise that u can just put on that rubber side casing on it. i dont have an iphone yet but does that not work? if it does, then how smart does someone have to be to think of it?
