Sapphire launches a passively cooled HD5670

Silent running

GRAPHICS CARD MAKER Sapphire claims its Ultimate Edition HD5670 is one of the fastest silent cards money can buy.

sapphire-hd5670The HD5760 card has the full performance of Sapphire's fan-cooled models, but it comes with a heatpipe cooler for silent running when gamers are tearing it up.

Using ATI's Radeon HD 5670 GPU, this card has a top-mounted heatsink and cooling fins connected to the heatpipe to do the job. This means it is much fatter than most cards so it could cause install problems, especially if your PC is already chock full or you have a mini-tower system.

It has 1GB of DDR5 with clock speeds of 775MHz core and 1000MHz (4GHz effective) for the memory. Output ports support Dual-Link DVI, HDMI and DisplayPort. The company also reckons the Ultimate Edition can drive three monitors in ATI Eyefinity mode.

Sapphire built the card with Dynamic Power Management features so you don't need to hook up any power connectors. It sucks only 60W under full load.

The card is on sale in the UK now for around £100. µ
