FUTURE TABLETS AND TELLYS could interoperate with Bada, Samsung's smartphone OS, if the company's investigation concludes that it wants to extend the software to other devices.
The Korean company sees the extension to other devices as a second step after further development of the OS on its smartphones. The 1.0 version of Bada is available for Samsung's smartphones and a 1.x version, still in development, is expected for the companies upcoming lines of phones, the Wave 2 and the Wave Pro. Announced this week the Wave 2 is a touchscreen handset while the Wave Pro has a slide design, but there is no date for their UK availability.
At the London Bada developer day, Samsung media solutions centre Bada platform lead and VP Justin Hong told The INQUIRER, "Smartphone is to be the first success and then we can move to other devices. I can't say when our concrete first step will take place. We are pursueing a whole range of devices with Bada."
Hong described Bada as having a very flexible architecture and added that the company has a multi-platform strategy. Hong said that he expects Bada to be used, as well as in smartphones and possibly tablets and tellys, in "lower priced devices", but he did not confirm if that meant entry level handsets. The INQUIRER wants to know if a telly version of Bada could be called bo-bim-bap, named after a Korean dish. µ
