Google Docs gets better at sharing

Three new sharing options
Fri Jun 18 2010, 14:42

MICROSOFT OFFICE KILLER Google Docs has launched features to make documents easier to share.

Google said that its suite of cloud based applications now has a simplified interface so that it is easier to share and access files.

There are now three visibility options that documents, spreadsheets and presentations can be given - public on the web, anyone with the link and private.

All documents start off as private by default with the owner being the only one with access. From there, you can give access to other people with these options.

Google compared the 'anyone with the link' option to an unlisted phone number, which anyone with the right web link can view.

For example, if you are a university professor and want to share a syllabus and reading list with your students, you can put that information in a document and set it with that link.

The public option is self-explanatory, and will also be indexed by Google so it can be seen in search results.

Meanwhile, Zoho has announced Wiki 2.0, which introduces enterprise-level features such as multiple group sharing and team workspaces, which it claims will make collaboration "easier and effective". µ

Wow, this is impressive. Free software, what will happen to software companies?

Small businesses using calendars and messaging software to communicate within the business can switch to "free" google office docs. Instead of buying a software, they can now get it for free.

OMG.
