Another Xbox 360 model is out

250GB hard drive, woohoo
Tue Jun 15 2010, 10:10

GAMING TOYMAKER Microsoft has been showing off its latest Xbox 360 model at the E3 show. The console features a 250GB hard drive, built-in wireless capabilities and it will work with the Vole's hands-free Kinect motion controller when that comes out.

Not that it is very difficult. If you already have an Xbox 360 now it will work with Kinect, so the motion controller is not a reason to upgrade.

The 250GB console will be sold for $299.99 which is exactly the same recommended retail price as the Xbox Elite console. It will be in US retail outlets this week. UK consumers will have to wait until July 16th to get their paws on one.

So what is the difference? The Xbox 360 is slimmer and quieter than its predecessor. There is a smaller power supply and it has three USB ports on the back panel and two at the front. The hard-drive is also smaller in size so migration is going to be a pain the arse. µ

@ winbondage

You mean the P$3,000.00? After 4 years, that thing is finally to the price it should have been by Christmas year 2. I've been waiting for it to get cheap enough for me to finally get a Blu-Ray player, but i'm not spending $300+ for a blu-ray.

@ mycelo
the wireless is built in, so you don't need external kit...
they're not going to allow other USB adapters for two reasons.
1. it'd cut into their revenue from selling MS brand
2. driver support. so, d-link, linksys, cisco, etc. are gonna come up with drivers? or MS is going to? neither one's gonna do it, cuz it's easier for MS to just say no, and also, it puts more money in their pockets, see reason #1

PS3

Well if PS3 was nearly good M$ would be forced to do something more than superficial changes.

The built-in wi-fi sounds interesting nevertheless. Currently I have it tethered to my notebook which bridges it to my wireless router. And bridging networks in Linux isn't something very friendly.

Now that M$ allowed us to use our USB flash sticks as storage (oh what a godsend! </irony ) they could very well allow generic USB wi-fi cards, right?
