LITIGATION IS TO END between Motorola and Research In Motion after they agreed on a settlement to bring to an end their legal battle.

This result closes an investigation begun in January of this year when Motorola sued RIM over the use of certain wireless technologies, and was pushing for a ban on the sale of its products.

However, in a statement Motorola said, "Motorola and RIM will benefit from a long-term, intellectual property cross-licensing arrangement involving the parties receiving cross-licenses of various patent rights, including patent rights relating to certain industry standards and certain technologies, such as 2G, 3G, 4G, 802.11 and wireless email. In addition, the parties will transfer certain patents to each other."

According to the statment RIM will fall on its accounts department and make an up-front payment and ongoing royalties to Motorola. Other details of the deal are confidential. µ
