WHITER THAN WHITE with some brushed aluminum, gadget firm Apple is once again under the glare of regulators, this time because of its Iphone.
According to a statement on its website, the US International Trade Commission (ITC) has voted in favour of an investigation of the Cappuccino company, its Iphone, and some of its software. The investigation, at least the genesis of it, started with a complaint from the Taiwan-based mobile phone and smartphone manufacturer HTC.
According to the ITC, HTC is alleging violations of section 337 of the Tariff Act of 1930 which covers the importation and sale of devices and software that infringe its patents. The ITC said, "The products at issue in this investigation are portable electronic devices that utilise certain power management methods and may incorporate hardware and software for telephone directories within mobile telephone systems."
Completists will enjoy the fact that Apple is currently suing HTC over similar patent infringement claims, causing those of us who are not legally trained to wonder whether, like black noise, such things cancel each other out.
It turns out they don't, so the legal eagles at HTC have asked the ITC to issue a cease and desist order against Apple, which could prevent the sale of Iphones. The ITC has given itself 45 days to set a target date for completing its investigation.
Apple must be getting sick of all the accusations that are getting levelled at it. Few firms could be expected to come out in support of a factory that has seen over ten suicides in recent months, face investigation over its advertising system from one group of US regulators, and then set aside more lawyers to tackle troublesome things like patent infringements.
Isn't it time someone gave Apple a break? µ
Apple gets all the breaks. They take average product, make it look all pretty, and then don't even use lubrication when they rape their customers' in their backsides; you know, where they keep their wallets.
All Apple ever had to do to win was charge half price. I don't like Mac OS, but it's decent enough that if they didn't charge people twice the price for the same Core 2 duo that's in a competing Windows system, that they could have probably gained some market share by now. I don't know why Apple never just licensed Windows, made a custom Theme that looks like Mac OS, and then say, OK, Macs now support all your Windows Software and Hardware. Then they could throw the Theme into the iTunes store and charge the same price as the whole OS for the Skin. Since Macs hardware is the same now, and the OS is the only thing holding it back. But, seriously, I'd rather someone come along and just crush Apple out of existence. I hoped they were going to fade away before, but unlucky me.
The fruit company definitely is rotten. Apple is getting too bold and wouldn't be surprised if it tried going after Micro$soft.
@Nathan You need to read more posts on this blog to get the jokes.
Excellent impression of the average Mac/Apple troll. You only overlooked one tiny thing. You spelled everything correctly and user proper punctuation and grammar. Nice touch though. It bought a smile to my weary face.
They are so controlling, it's about time somebody is investigating their arse!!!
Nathan, it seems to me that Apple are in hot water indeed!
The last time I checked, Apple is located in Cupertino, CA not Cappuccino.
Apple products are great and Jobs is a genius! And their prices are fair! You people work for Microsoft and are venting your frustration now that Apple is bigger! And this site sucks!
But I can't help but keep reading it!
;)
Apple are the worlds biggest patent troll and deserves everything it gets.
