HP announces Photosmart email printers

Drivers not required
Fri Jun 11 2010, 13:03

MAKER OF EXPENSIVE PRINTER INK HP has announced the first of its printers that will be web connected and cloud enabled.

The Premium e-All-in-One is HP's flagship model with WiFi and is customisable via a line of HP print applications. It uses HP's Touchsmart touchscreen technology with a 10.9cm screen and supports auto-duplexing. It's due out in October 2010 for £179.99.

The HP Photosmart Plus e-All-in-One sounds like a similar printer with a smaller 8.9cm touchscreen. That's due in September £149.99 while the HP Photosmart Wireless e-All-in-One has a smaller 6.1cm touchscreen with individual ink cartridges. That's slated for a July 2010 launch for £99.99.

The HP Photosmart Premium Fax e-All-in-One with an automatic two-sided document feeder is expected in September for £229.99.

We reported earlier that HP intends to embed a unique email address in nearly all of its business and consumer printers.

Users essentially can print from any smart device to an email-enabled printer without the need for a driver. This allows printed output to be delivered via an email message. Somehow this seems like deja vu all over again. µ

Email Printing... Nice

So i'm very happy with this driver-less printing! Obviously you are better off just installing the network based drivers for multiple machines around the house but when it comes time for a visitor to swing by, or an iPad/Phone whatver, how simple! The only thing i've disliked about HP Is the "Drivers" with is code for, Hp Essentials + HP Update + HP Solution Center + HP This and That etc etc because its a nuisance AND takes 25-45 minutes even on a high end machine (Maybe 20 if from a downloaded file instead of the CD-ROM). So i always make it a point to download the "network only" driver online if available. If not available, its not the end of the world to just uninstall the appz that they put on but yes it is inconvenient and should be an option. I dont buy Printers for their drivers but for their features/capabilities like: Tray Loading paper, Instant-On, Network Wake-Up, Printer Menus, buttons and ONLY Individual Ink Cartridges (Cmon people, pay a little more out the door and replace colors as you need to which will save you quite a bit over the life) and this Email Print is just another Option that draws me in for its convenience assuming it works as easily as it sounds like it does!

The last straw

Yeah, U had to buy an all-in-one for my online classes last year, so I got an HP unit. Not only was the driver size nearly 200MB (why?!?), it installed some stupid "HP Network Driver" service that literally caused my computer to hang over a minute each time I cold-booted it. Not only did disabling the service fix the issue, it made *ZERO* difference in the functionality of the device! I got pissed, refunded the piece of shit, and bought a Canon. Never another dime, HP. Never!

Same inclination

After my 5000 series ink tank clip broke (HP: "sorry, no parts available, nope") and I replaced it with a new unit, the cd install ended up FORCING some garbage toolbar onto the system (no, repeat NO opt-out possibility, nice coding there HP) - well that's the last HP product for me also.

No more HP

After having a ton of crapware installed on my computer while installing a driver for an HP printer, I vowed, nevermore! Their PCs are crap, their customer support is crap, they are just crappy.
