Full of Android goodness

UK AND EUROPEAN MOBILE NETWORK Vodafone has placed Samsung's Galaxy S 16GB Android 2.1 smartphone on its preorder list.

Unless you're really into queuing up outside high street shops it might be the best alternative if you want a smartphone that is not controlled for you by Steve Jobs.

The Samsung Galaxy S features the Android 2.1 OS, a 4-inch Super AMOLED screen, a 1GHz processor and a 5-megapixel camera.

Vodafone tells us that you can pick up the Samsung Galaxy S 16GB smartphone from Vodafone for free on a £35 per month, two-year contract, which will get you 900 minutes per month plus unlimited texts and 1GB of data downloads.

In March we had a look at it at the device at the CTIA Wireless 2010 show in Las Vegas. We spotted that the smartphone has a mDNIe (mobile Digital Natural Image engine) behind it, which Samsung also uses on its LCD and LED TVs.

We reckon this is a nice bit of kit with about all the stuff you might possibily want. µ

Beware Samsung

I bought a Samsung Galaxy i7500 last year - still stuck on 1.5 9 months later. No coherent response from Samsung to enquiries from itaye customers.

Yeah...

I dunno, Obi. I'm not sure UK and European consumers will be that concerned about whether to go with AT&T or Sprint.

hmmm

@androidage

The .3" difference is not that much if you ask me, but the technology behind OLED is just worlds better than LCD. Oled however has glaring issues in the sun, but Samsung fixed that with AMOLED and improved even further with Super Amoled.

They both have nearly the same type of features overall. I think the carrier differences would be more of the factor of what customers will decide on in the end. Some people just won't go with AT&T and some just won't go with Sprint.

Android FTW

I ditched my iPhone 3GS since grabbing a Evo 4G ... can't see what more I need.
Android 2.2 being a free update for 2.1 users, and with a plethora of free useful apps in the Android Market.
1Ghz is plenty ... but if its your bag, you can overclock and undervoltage to 1.3Hz too ...
What really does it for me is the possibility of a PSX emulator in the next few months ... can someone say Final Fantasy VII already?
This Samsung is sweet, but Evo is sweeter IMHO.
What I want in a future mobile is an all-screen design. No frame or panel or buttons around it. Just the multi-touch screen ... oh with Android on it too ... FTW

I like my Androids naked

Isn't it a skinned version of Android though?
That's enough to put me off.
