Dell Alienware M11x evolves with Core i5 and i7

Core 2 Duo is replaced by Core i5

IGNORE THE Core 2 Duo version of the Dell Alienware M11x laptop for gaming because for not much more you can have the turbo boosted Core i5 and i7 versions.

Available a mere six months after its CES unveiling, the Core i5 version starts at £849, just a ton more than the Core 2 Duo version. The shiny Dell Alienware M11x Core i5 and Core i7 versions come preloaded with Windows 7 64-bit, an 11.6-inch 720p ready display, 8GB of DDR3 memory and either a 500GB 7,200RPM hard drive or 256GB SSD storage. For gamers prepared to limp around with the 2kg laptop, it has both an Nvidia GeForce GT335M and an Intel integrated GPU plus 5.1 surround sound audio.

Dell said, "The M11x reached a maximum frames per second of 92 with an average of 54 when playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2." How yesteryear, what about Call of Duty: Black Ops?

Its output ports include HDMI, USB 2.0 and Ethernet RJ-45. WiFi is built-in as is the "Alien FX" illuminated keyboard, for when you need to find it in the dark.

Dell likes to point out that all of its processors are overclockable but doesn't recommend it. How boring. Bluetooth 2.1 is optional and so is the choice of colours with stealth black or lunar shadows available. Awesome.

How boring?

Rob, if this stuff bores you maybe you should get out of tech reporting...

M11x overclocking

If you're reviewing the M11x I would be interested to hear if Dell has cherry picked a model that can overclock without problems. There have been tons of people with problems with the overclocking due to Dell undervolting the CPU when overclocked to help maintain battery consumption.

Some CPUs are fine but some can't operate without the normal amount of juice and Dell haven't bothered to release a BIOS update to fix it.
