It is great in everyway except for the sound quality of the musicplayer and headlhones. They can't match up to my regular mp3 player that didn't cost me no more then 40 bucks. About iphone4 I just spent 4 hrs trying to get all the necessary software so I can synchronize all the data to my pc and in the end job not done!!!!!!!! I don't know what Apple is trying to prove but I am sure that anyone that knows a thing or two about smart phones will definitely avoid apple smart phones.

By the way, there are a lot of factual errors in the article (bad WiFi reception, Bing as default search, etc.) and that's confusing. There are plenty of reasons to hate the iPhone, so why not be accurate when choosing them? Why not point out that iTunes is awful, yet necessary to this phone (and that application doesn't play well with Linux)? Why not talk about how IOS has been in essentially a holding pattern for the past couple of years while Android has evolved incredibly during that time? How about the awful voice control or downright hostility toward third-party developers?

Oh, well. The end result is the same -- iPhone hate is a very, very good thing.

iPhone 4 is like a luxury phone. The beautiful, shining exterior was made with same material of that of chopper wing. The 5 megapixel camera in it is better than 8 megapixel in android phones, it has the biggest pixels in a smartphone so far. It can handle many email account such as google, yahoo, hotmail, aol all coming directly to your iPhone, where else your cheap, and cartoonish android can only bring google mail directly to your phone. And the greatest thing; it can speak many languages such as Arabic where your cheap, stupid, and delay-touch-screen android shows empty boxes when it speaks Arabic. Face it, IPhone is the best and it will remain that way unless apple design another one.

Steve Jobs is a conman. Pure and simple. Don't get me wrong, apple and his ideas are very good but they have a sinister side. I could easily get a pay a child to cover a petrified turd in shiny metal and sell it at ten times the price if I had a marketing machine that brainwashes the public. Steve Jobs is doing just that. He has mastered the art of supply and demand. I do prefer Bill Gates. He is honest and caring and more of a buisiness man than what Jobs is. hiya everyone just to let you know im not an expert on iphone 4 have done some research though. received iphone4 this morning from vodafone (uk) was excited synced it with itunes brilliant applied to activate sim they said could take up to 24hours thats fine dont mind waiting but will it actually have signal and service in 24hours? so far i have rebooted it reset networks etc and nothing i am going to wait and see until tomorrow as its not been 24hours yet but has anyone else had this problem as i really dont want to give up on the phone as do like it other than i cant call or text anyone wifi working as picks up the same wireless network that my laptop does so thats all good also if u have ipod and already have itunes can u send them to your iphone without being charged as partner already has an itunes library on his laptop for his ipod???

Apple fanboys, I challenge you about few facts. Break them if you can.
1. Iphone is overpriced. "It is mp3 player, can browse net , can call(phone)." So what? Much cheaper phones can do that.
2. Flash, no matter what said , can you say that it is not at all used? No you can not.There may be alternatives, but why on earth a device at that price do not support it when chaeper phones can?
3. Bluetooth can not connect to other phones for file transfer.
4. iphone do not have removable memory like microsd. I often download documents over net and take print outs at cyber cafe with card reader and my phone's microsd. Apple fans! Can you "jailbreak" this feature in the Iphone? I guess not.
5. Apps..... what does they do to enable iphone to do something useful what other phones can not do? Moreover, apps cost money most of the time. There may be some free, but many phones have free applications. What is new?

well all the other iphones don't have flash.Apple keep making iphones so there probably will be 5 and 6 and even if flash comes out on iphone 5 later or 6 in 1 or 2 years we will get the OS and download flash as easy as that.

I just canceled phone contract and sent iPhone4 back. iPhone4 is useless as a communication device. Reception in iPhone4 drops off at all times. Battery does not last for 2 days and it is not replaceable! The sound muffled as trough a pillow and in the bathroom. Due to creepy design it is difficult to sms back or to do anything quick. It false calls back immediately if not locked. As for media … forget it.. A 2mpx camera will do better. The ‘scratch protected glass’ scratches if you put phone on a dusty surface. Do not drop it from height more then 10cm or glass will crack all over. And these gay translucent icons… yak. It is designed to attract a stupid buyer, not use it. It is a device for idiots or crack addicts.

Its true that nick got his facts wrong but as an iPhone user I must say it's the shittest phone I've ever used
1. I cannot grab images from safari (the worst browser ever) it just doesn't have an option for it.
2. U cannot download anything from safari, this is limited by apple. Seriously I'm really pissed because even my 6 years old nokia can do that.
3. 80% off the apps from apple stores you have to pay for them + if u want music on ur phone u have to buy from iTunes.
4. The iPhone4 restricts Bluetooth u can't connect it to other phones. They shouldnt call it bluetooth if u only use it to connect to headset and pc
5. The settings are ridiculously limited I can't turn autorotate off. It doesn't have 1 tenth of what u can do on android.
6.Even tho it came out few months after the htc desire, it hasn't got 1/10th of what the desire can do.
7. It uses micro sim card so u cant use ur sim with a different phone or use it with another simcard
8. It's reception is so shit compared to other phones
10. The new update iOS 4.1 makes it impossible to jailbreak it.
11. U can't install widgets unlike android.
12. I have to charge the battery once or sometimes twice a day.
13. U can't put sd card in it for extra space
14. It's impossible to download YouTube videos
15. The apps for this phone are so useless and expensive compared to android ones.

Yes apple had a few problems with the iPhone 4, but considering they have been producing phones a mere few years compared to brands like nokia, they are nothing short of genius.

4.) It has been said that by the end of the year there will be video-calling on 3g. and besides who cares if you can only do it to another iPhone 4. Most phone cant so video-calling, and its awesome iPhone can.

5.) It definetly isnt made of plastic. Its made from the same stuff as military helicopter windshields dipshit. and the sides are 3x stronger than steel.

6.) If the price is so outrageous then why did 1.7 million people buy it the first 3 days. and AT&T has some of the cheapest rates.

7.) All phones go out of style and besides every year in June Apple improves the Iphone, and refreshes the iPhone world.

8.) It doesnt do the same at all you idiot. No adroid phone has video-calling, they only have 75,000 apps iPhone has over 200,000, and there is no iPod on Android phones.

I have been a smart phone user from day one and think current apple products are head and shoulders above the competition. Many of the reasons in your list are, as stated above, inaccurate. Was this intended to be an opinion piece?

11. If you are a lefty, then you don't get any signal and can't make any calls because holding the iphone in the palm of your left hand shorts the bluetooth/wifi antenna against the 3G antenna....Nice.

Few things you missed out...
Despite being an Android user (don't worry, I have mac and duel boot it with kubuntu) I have bought Iphone 4 to my mother....It turned out to be the worst decision I've ever made.

I compared the phone with my Galaxy S, and the battery life is dispicable. Also, the phone SHATTERED when she accidentally dropped on the marble desk, not even a full foot away= the phone is just way too fragile to be 'practical'.

Sure, you can buy half inch thick protection and even argue that phones are not bloody cricket balls, but come on, if the phone is that fragile, it's almost like saying 'no clumsy people alloweded'. Also, buying thick protective layer also defeats the purpose, look at htc, I played around with Hero with no cover, no scratch, very well engineered.

The reception issue annoyed me, but was not that big of issue than the phone's fragile construction. However, missing phone calls were very annoying.

Flash, I really want flash, look, you can have apps for nearly everything, but nowdays more and more websites are flash dependent, and by installing Flash player, you don't have to go through the painful process of accessing a website by finding (about for a half an hour) an app that does it...and you end up with kazillions of apps.

Jailbreaking? I did it, it was very easy, (on my old 3GS, yes I changed from Iphone to Android) and it was very handy in aspect of free apps and 'unofficial' apps...but that's about it, it doesn't offer a half of what Android offers, hell you can even flash the Galaxy's wlan driver and put on aircrack, you have super wireless wardrive kit on your pocket...not that I'm proud of it...

Look, drop the fanboy talk, Android really sucked back in 1.5, but they really are better...even better than Iphone....and Iphone 4 was biggest mistake Apple ever made, I know Iphones were never 'great' with their disgusting lying deceiving biased marketing plans....Now people are starting to see through the Apple marketing tactics and see the imperfection of the phone, and compunded with Steve Jobs' stupidity (by no means he is stupid, but one person can only do so much, trust me, you need Flash if you want the true web browsing experience....I guess apple desensitized their consumers by forcing them to use their huge app store instead...)

All of these reasons are very very weak and most are not even fully true. Let me go through and respond to each one...

1. Jailbreaking easily bypasses the dumb Apple lock-down, you should look into it. Many powerful apps are availible only after jailbreaking.

2. How does this make the Iphone itself bad? If people are upset that the Iphone isn't 4G, then don't buy it, however this is probably a rare scenario. Only one 4G phone exists right now as far as I know.

3. Wifi does have problems, this is true. But for me this will not prevent me from purchasing the Iphone, for 3G speeds are quite fast regardless.

4. I agree, Facetime will be a little-used feature as long as it's Wifi only.

5. Complaining about the size is laughable. There are some thin rubber covers that only add like 1 - 2mm to the width. Regardless, what smartphone have you seen doesn't require a over for clumsy or paranoid people?

6. The Iphone 4 ATT contracts are the same if not less than other carriers. With the $15 data option, consumers can easily shave o part of the price. And it uses the same plan as the Iphone 3G.

7. Iphone 4 is among the most advanced phone. Are you saying it is more suseptible to going out of date than most ohter phones. What point are you trying to make. All technology goes absulete rather quickly.

Right now I have the Iphone 3GS and I was plaining on geting the new one for my birthday , Untill i heard about there new contracts ...... basicly every time you vist a website they charge you little fees and every time you download an app you have to pay a small fee for that to . The one thing that can't be debunked by coolaid drinkers is the fact that your precious iPhone 4 cannot have an unlimited data plan because as of Monday June 7th, the only unlimited dataplan left is for the Blackberry on AT&T's network (I confirmed this by calling AT&T). So get use to checking your data usage and either backing off or making AT&T and Apple rich with your overage fees. I'll be happily consuming unlimited Data on my Blackberry and at upgrade time next year, I'll be getting a new Blackberry and STILL maintaining my Blackberry Personal unlimited data plan.

The review is rubbish and you can scream and shout about how it is wrong, but I'd like to see someone explain how it is worth £249?
Would it be the front facing camera? UK video calling is non-existant.
How about the main camera resolution? Nope nothing special there.
Is it that you can now run more than 1 app at a time. Again standard for a lot of other phones.
Is it that it is smaller? Ok it is smaller but it isn't like the 3gs is huge.
Is it that it will allow me to browse more of the web than before? Nope still flash support (HTML5 is not a valid alternative yet)

The original iPhone appeared in the summer of '07, the 3G in the summer of '08, the 3GS in the summer of '09 and, well, you get the idea. It is perfectly reasonable to suggest that anyone foolish enough to nail themselves to an extended contract for one of these things might be one or even two iterations behind by the time they're clear of paying for it.

Not one of the O2 contracts is less than 18 months and most are two years. The only way the iPhone can be made to look affordable is by offering protracted contracts and charging mad people for the actual phone as a separate item.

The cheapest O2 deal is £25/month over a minimum 24 months + £249 for the 3GS - two years and well over two hundred quid for something that's already a version behind. Shame you can't get common sense on a similar deal.

I'm surprised after having watched the keynote this morning at the level of in-accuracies in this article.

I'll be the first to say I've never bought a single apple product to dismiss any fanboy accusations and I was simply interested to see the presentation. But as people above have clearly mentioned half of the facts above are in error.

To re-itterate a few, it has a glass back. The wifi didn't work as there was around 500+ wi fi hot spots from all the bloggers. I doubt many wi fi systems would be ok with 500+ base stations spaming the airwaves in one room. Indeed later on it worked after half the crowd turned theirs off.

The face time, being wifi only seemed purely due to carriers not having the network capacity for such a thing.

Bing was also just added as a 3rd option, but still defaulting to google.

I'm surprised at the lack of editorial control here. Is this really the quality of all the inquirer articles, I've been a daily reader for some years, but I'm quite shocked at this.

I wouldn't expect anything less from such an aptly named site. Sadly, a family member linked this to me as a serious source of real criticism against the iPhone 4.

1. I agree with this except saying 'half' is an unnecessary exageration opening yourself to other flames as per above. However, it is worth noting that Flash 5 i not currently in use so any defence based around Flash 5 as an alternative does not hold water yet. Basically, you cant interact with many websites but certainly not half.
2. Its called iPhone 4, not 4G! If anything, its the media thats at fault for projecting onto apple that they will name their device 4G!
3. Agreed, Yes, Wifi does not work at my work but my android phone works fine. Not a scientific poll but there are many other online reports of wifi problems.
4. Agree, paying or an app that will only work over a dodgy wi-fi connection (or not!) is rubbish. Most devices have had video calling for years - this is not new.

Despite the many errors it takes balls to not be a sheep and bleat on about how great iPhones are. Just look at some of the outrageous comments to this article.

Let's not forget that in the world of phones iPhone accounts for only 2% of handset sales yet receives about 70% of column inches. Apple are great at marketing to their dedicated customers (sheep)and no doubt the iPhone 4 will be a success despite its shortcomings.

Me, well I'll be sticking to Android where I have the freedom of loading the apps that I want from wherever I want to. (most of them free). I can customise the Android phone to meet my requirements. And I have a choice of devices.

How many people know What 4G means? tha majority of (iPhone) users are not highly technical...they couldn't tell the difference between GSM & kryptonite.

I think the observation of misleading people to suggest 4G is somewhat valid. Marketing teams often give names which are as appealing as they can make them without plainly misrepresenting the product. Some people will mislead themselves by attributing 4 to being 4G etc etc.

The iPhone 4 is a good idea if anything for the reason it will sell by the bucket load & the rest in rather unimportant.

Do they let anyone write articles now? All of the reasons this guy gives are just idiotic. Only reason I'm guessing he wrote this was to get traffic to this website. I've never had a problem wth my 3g on wifi, the phone slipping out of my hand, the walled garden with 200000 apps or any of the dumb reasons he gives. Saying it will be outdated in a year? Better than android with a new phone every month that do the same fucking thing as the iPhone.

I have an HTC with Android and fully support what Google are trying to achieve with an open OS. I have an ipod touch and use chrome as my default browser on a PC. I think I'm objective. I also watched live blogs from the Apple keynote yesterday at WWDC.

This article is so totally loose with the facts and utterly biassed against the iphone (and Apple perhaps) that it astonishes me. To see this nonsense at the top of google's tech news is disappointing. If this is representative of the quality of the reporting from The Inquirer I'm removing it from my feeds list in the future.

A couple of points stand out and these have been covered neatly and objectively, in the "debunking" comment:

As was said in the keynote, the wifi was competing against 570 base stations in the same room from attendee bloggers. Not a typical scenario and I don't really see how the author can generalise that the iphone 4 therefore has inherent wifi problems?

As is also widely known now, Bing is an optional search engine with Google as the default. The author chose to leave this information out.

Why not call it the iphone 4? It appears to be a significant improvement on the 3GS and only pre-launch speculation labelled it as a 4G phone. I'm not sure why this is a reason not to buy it?

I laughed when I saw reason no. 5 and I'll say no more..."easy to slip out of your hands shape" :D

Regarding the price, I understand that it's a pretty high price for some budgets (mine included) but it seems we're getting a lot of well designed kit here. I'll wait for reviews once it's released.

And finally, Flash really isn't half of what's on the web. I do miss Flash content on my ipod touch and it is irritating at times seeing a blank space in a web page, esp BBC news. But it's only a minor problem and I'm sure someone's got something clever in mind to get round it.

I rarely make an effort to remember the names of reporters I'll make sure I dismiss anything with Nick Farrell's name on in the future.

Good article, Nick. I too have held out rather than waiting in a long line for a toy that does half as much than a real phone. Funny how a few people get all pissy-like when someone says something bad about apple. Those must be the folks who paid 599.00 for a 1g iphone when it first came out.

Good article Nick, but you really should check your grammar. "... is has a stainless steel..."

1. Flash is not "half" of the web, it's a minor part, usually used for video for which there is a HTML5 alternative that many sites are using. Other video sites offer apps to access their content, and many flash games have app versions as well. Now that Farmville is ported, I'd say that most users' needs are catered for.

2. It's the iPhone 4, not the iPhone 4G. Stop deliberately misleading. And if this is your number two reason for not using it, then the iPhone 4 is an unqualified success.

3. The WiFi did work later on, there was a small glitch in a rare situation, unsurprising that a mobile device can't compete with higher power laptops. I've never read an article about WiFi issues with current iPhones, so I think you're just making stuff up.

4. FaceTime is an open standard built upon open standards - there will be Windows, Mac, Linux support in apps very quickly. Oddly enough cellular providers don't want to support high-bitrate video calls (unlike Three in the UK, but 3G video calls on this network looked rubbish).

5. People who have actually used it say it is far better to hold. It has a glass back.

6. Miniaturisation costs money. People will buy this by the millions, therefore the price is right.

7. All phones are out of date within months usually. At least Apple provides OS updates for over two years, that's far more support than HTC have provided for my Hero.

8. As a Hero user, I can categorically state that it would take a miracle to buy another Android phone.

9. All phones are built in the same, or worse, conditions. Apple and HP are the only two that have minimum working condition requirements of their Chinese contractors.

10. It uses Google for search, with Bing as an option. So you're wrong again. Choice is good, and Apple is providing it here. Yahoo! is the other option btw.
