Firefox updates on Weave syncs

If you bookmark it, it will come
Wed Jun 02 2010, 15:15

OPEN SOURCE OUTFIT Mozilla's Weave Sync for Firefox has graduated from beta and has been placed in the leading alternative web browser's roadmap.

Now renamed as Firefox Sync, the tool is currently available as an add-on, but will be included as a full feature in the next major release of Fireferret, according to a Mozzarella blog post by Ragavan Srinivasan of Mozilla Labs.

Despite its apparent maturity, the firm is still looking for user feedback on the useful plug-in application. "For those of you that tested Sync and gave feedback while it was a part of Mozilla Labs, thank you, this would not have happened without you. And even though this project has graduated, we are still looking for your feedback and involvement as we incorporate Sync into Firefox," said Srinivasan announcing the software's graduation.

Sync is designed to help those web users who have the desire to take their bookmarks and the like with them wherever they go. Fittingly for an application that has just come out of beta, it has a number of new features, and Srinivasan said that these include its being available in a number of new languages and having a simpler sign-up and setup process, as well as a single button for accessing remote tabs.

Standard features include the ability to access history, passwords, bookmarks, and even tabs that are open on other devices, or as Mozilla explains on its download pages, "Doing online research from the office, only to see itʼs time to head home? Now you can go back to your opened tabs and search history in an instant from any PC. Your Firefox is as you left it, no matter where you log in."

Yes people, there is no escape from work. But nonetheless, we like this. µ

Can it sync all my photos, videos onto 1 backup type device?

With video cameras, cameras, phone cameras, emailed images etc, I would like a device that stores everything and is unlikely to be stolen in a buglary.

Family photos used to be in albums or packets from Boots. Now those photos are in an old laptop, desktop, hard drive, cd, dvd, phone, smartphone, email etc.

How can I put them all in one "thing" that grows as my data needs grows?

Practical side of things, I need it to be able to left on 24/7, low power but quick working, hideable.

Please make it an it will sell, families want this.
