Samsung talks up its future chip glories

Things are getting better
Thu May 27 2010, 11:43

KOREAN GIANT Samsung's semiconductor business is getting better each quarter according to its president, Kwon Oh-hyun.

He said that the outfit will perform better in the second quarter due to its robust outlook for the global chip sector this year.

Kwon's comment came a month after the electronics giant posted the biggest ever quarterly net profit of $3.26 billion in the first quarter, as its chip and TV divisions benefited from a strong rebound in consumer demand.

He is predicting even brisker sales of memory chips and flat-screen televisions later this year.

The company appears to be racking up cash hand over fist. The beginning of the year saw an operating profit margin of 23.9 per cent. This was compared to a loss the year before.

Samsung will spend a record $21.2 billion on manufacturing facilities and research and development this year, with a large chunk of that expected to end up in its chip business.

Apparently Samsung wants to expand its dynamic random access memory, NAND flash memory and next-generation memory products. µ

Up with sKoreans! Down with Jap Chaps!

Yay Korean company! May Korea usurp Japan's former mastery of consumer electronics manufacturing and export and teach the arrogant Japanese a lesson for their endangered whale slaughtering and remorseless tuna overfishing and their petulant imperialist arrogance after losing the war.
