Meego is not a go-go

FINNISH PHONE MAKER Nokia is upgrading its N900 smartphone with games and video enhancements but it won't support Meego.

The company announced on its official blog that the N900 smartphone will get version 1.2 for UK punters.

Nokia is adding a selection of games to its Ovi Store. Additional titles include Jurassic 3D Rollercoaster, Zen-bound, Angry Birds, Sygic, Kroll, Weatherbug, and Gogadget. These titles and other apps available will go live tomorrow.

The 1.2 release bolts on face-to-face video calling to the N900 and Nokia claimed it has improved communications. Email has been upgraded and social notworking has been added with Facebook IM chat.

The N900 will get a UI tweak with portrait browsing on the Internet finally bolted on. Ovi Maps has an updated UI, which Nokia claimed will improve "the experience of finding your way around".

While Nokia will support Maemo5, it doesn't intend to roll out Meego on the N900 handset.

"Although Nokia N900 devices are being used for platform development and testing purposes by those involved in the MeeGo project, Nokia doesn't have plans for a full scale commercial MeeGo upgrade on the Nokia N900," said a Nokia spokesperson enigmatically known only as Rhiain. µ
