MAKING A PREDICTION that might come to haunt him in years to come, Google CEO Eric Schmidt has said that the Android OS will become number one or two in its market.
Announcing that over 65,000 devices running the Linux based Android operating system are being shipped every day, Schmidt made his forecast while clearly forgetting that predictions are always difficult, especially about the future.
According to an Agence France Presse report Schmidt, speaking at his company's annual shareholders meeting, said "our strategy is very different from everybody else's. We license our code for free, so that's really pretty revolutionary. We're trying to build an entire ecosystem of openness, the inverse of the other guys."
Taking another swipe at Microsoft and Apple while not naming them, he also claimed that Android's success is based on its open strategy. This open strategy, Schmidt explained, is intended to ensure that a huge number of devices can adopt the OS to enable Google to reach a vast audience.
Sales of smartphones are expected to reach 2.5 billion between now and 2015, according to the Coda Research Consultancy. µ
I guess it's true what they say ignorance is bliss. Do you really think google doesn't "Charge you" as in they take nothing from you and just provide you a free service. I don't even know why I am even responding to such ignorance. So many stupid people in the world, I just don't get how you guys survive. Do you even know how adsense works or what it is?
But the way they handled design changes on their search pages has been much less than exemplary.
A lot of people are ticked off at capricious and non-consensual changes to the way their websearch page is displayed. Almost as if they treated users like unfeeling automata...
I think Google have not appreciated the relationship their users have with these pages. Maybe attachment does not compute in a world made of logic gates, but I am pretty sure that synapses are logical operators and therefore if they have not understood how to simulate such it is because their model is too simplistic not because their customers are illogical.
Remember kids, the customer is always right.
TV stations make money, you give something away for free, and advertise to people while you're doing it.
It could work the same way for torrents. Just get a bunch of torrenters together and come up with a way to pump commercials into every piece of video that goes over the network, and suddenly the advertising agencies won't give a damn how much video you download.
Not saying people would like the idea, but the RIAA would probably quit suing people rather quickly if this or something similar came on the scene.
They're(the TV companies) trying to come up with a way to pump internet video directly to your TV without anything complex being involved. They're calling it the "new age of television" and saying it will be "revolutionary." The only reason they're saying that is because they're hoping and praying it will be profitable.
Google isn't any more evil than any other capitalist.
Email, maps, satnav, docs all on a pc or phone. At the moment it's all free, and more free stuff is on the way too.
With all this free stuff and over 20,000 employees are google making a profit?
$27 billion in the bank, so they are making a profit.
How? Advertising that we click on.
Google is succeeding and we are benefitting.
Google are selling approx 60,000 android based phones a day, well the makers and operators are.
More devices to carry more adverts!
"predictions are always difficult, especially about the future."
Google is different, they don't charge me for anything. I'm using a load of their services, all they ask is that I look at a few ads. Oh no that is so bad! Stop being such a jackass. Why do you think Apple bashing occurs? It's because they're a weird company. Weird policies, weird management etc. As for being a Google robot...no...you're just an iDiot.
Gee. Google is the inverse of others. Do no evil. It is no fun to be brainwashed by Microsoft or Apple, but I'll take that any day instead of being one of Google's ROBOTS. It is time the Inquirer wakes up, and stops the Android marketing campaign. The mobile industry companies are all the same. They want our money, market dominance and profit. Google, Microsoft, RIM, Nokia,... are no different from Apple. The recent trend in Apple bashing from media and nerds all over is hypocrisy at its worst.
