HTC sues Apple again

Wants to block sales
Thu May 13 2010, 10:33

TAIWANESE PHONE MAKER HTC has escalated its patent war with Apple by seeking to block sales of the Iphone and other Apple products in the US.

Apple attacked HTC in March, when Jobs' Mob decided it would be a good idea to kill the competition for its Iphone from HTC's line of smartphones running the Android OS by claiming that they infringe Apple's patents.

Jason Mackenzie, vice president of HTC North America said that he believes the industry should be driven by healthy competition and innovation that offers consumers the best, most accessible mobile experiences possible.

He said that HTC was taking this action against Apple to protect its intellectual property, industry partners and mobile phone users.

HTC's complaint alleges that Apple infringes five of its patents. In one, the technology helps prolong battery life by letting the phone system operate independently from the gadget's other functions. The phone might be in 'sleep' mode while other programs are active.

Another alleged violation includes how stored information is moved between different kinds of memory depending on how much juice is left in the battery.

The other three patents relate to how the phones store numbers, then look them up and dial them.

If HTC's request for a preliminary injunction is successful, Apple will have to stop selling its Iphone. µ

Fanboy here! You called?

Did someone here call for a Fanboy?!... Oh, wrong Fanboy... Oh well, since i'm here...

HTC is absolutely right for what its doing here. This is a total double edge sword but, HTC is using its patients for the right purposed, to defend itself, this the patient system is working. however, apple is using the patient system as a weapon, to extinguish competition, which is how and why the patient is broken...

In the end we're all fucked... Its us, the little people, the Fanboy's of the world and everyone else, who pay the final price tag on this behavior.

I hope HTC does prevail on this and apple has to stop selling their lousy phone, maybe that would knock st steve down a few rungs on the ladder, god only knows he needs it. st steve is quickly becoming emperor steve...

I wish all patent trolls would just DIAF

They all need to Die In A Fire. Seriously. One company *CLAIMS* to hold a patent on some feature that is mindbogglingly easy to reproduce/replicate and then they go all lawsuit hungry claiming that "THEY STOLE IT!"

Our patent system is beyond messed up I don't even know where to begin.
