Twitter fixes major flaw

Celebs forced to follow losers
Tue May 11 2010, 10:03

SOCIAL NOTWORKING WEBSITE Twitter has moved to correct a major security flaw that forced celebrities' twitter feeds to follow losers who had hacked their accounts.

The "following" lists of the rich and famous began to swell as Twitter users attempted to test out the flaw on their own favourite tweeting celebrities.

Feel sorry for Kim Kardashian, she has not met so many ordinary people in her whole life. "Someone hacked my twitter account and direct messaged me! They have added over 200 new people! Ughhhhh," she wrote. Well, ordinary people are like that, Kim.

When Twitter temporarily turned off follower lists in order to work on fixing the glitch, that caused further concern. Justin Bieber found that he was suddenly not popular anymore and warned that the hackers are taking a grave risk. "U have now pissed off over 2 million teenage girls. They are more dangerous than Navy Seals," he twitted.

Ashton Kutcher wrote, "Twitter is being hacked by some turkish hacker. haha I have 0 followers". So no change there, eh Ash?

Gizmodo reported that the Twitter bug was discovered accidentally by a Turkish user who began making famous people follow him and then blogged about it, capturing the attention of other technology websites.

It has all been fixed now but apparently celebrities will have to go into their Twitter accounts and manually unfollow the hundreds or more that forced follows. It means that losers will still feature in the lives of the famous, even if only briefly and just long enough to scrape them off of their lives.

More celebrities here. µ

hacker?

The jist of this was that somebody liked the band "Accept" so they put in "accept pwnz" or something like that and suddenly pwnz was following them. Undocumented command 4tw. I'm not sure I would really call it a hack, nothing terribly clever, no social engineering going on. Just the use of an undocumented command.

I'm surprised nobody had found this sooner. oh and lol@justin bieber, is he even a guy? i mean c'mon just look at him ffs.
