Microsoft is still in the tablet business

The stylus is mightier than the finger

IN AN INTERVIEW with Faux News, Microsoft chairman Bill Gates stressed his commitment to the tablet, despite the company having had no impact on that nascent market.

In the interview Gates said that Microsoft's tablet horse is not dead, and added that no one is flogging it, though not in so many words.

Gates, like the lone witness to an alien invasion, attempted to convince anyone listening to him to open their eyes and see the truth, according to Techflash, which appears to have got it hands on a transcript of the full video.

"Microsoft has a lot of different tablet projects that we're pursuing," he said. "We think that work with the pen that Microsoft pioneered will become a mainstream for students. It can give you a device that you can not only read, but also create documents at the same time."

We've looked at the Fox website and watched all the Gates videos, but this part of the interview does not seem to have been published yet. We are loathe to keep checking back because the clicks will only add more feathers to the News Corp propaganda outfit's web hits cap.

In the meantime, what is with Gates' aversion to touching things? Is someone getting a little Howard Hughes in his old age? µ

Retired?

Bill Gates doesn't act very much like he has "retired" from Microsoft, being quoted as speaking as their chairman and all.

So much for using his ill-gotten billions to "save the world". Now its back to the old "embrace, extend, extinguish"...MUST EXTINGUISH ALL MICROSOFT COMPETITORS, MUST EXTINGUISH, EXTINGUISH...(as he continues his attacks on open source, and so on).

(He seems to be on the same level of "philanthropy" as the benevolent, non-narcissistic Steve Jobs, who only wants "the best" for the world, as long as "the best" is defined as exclusively Apple-controlled products).

They are and I like mine

Windows 7 does support tablet input mode. I've actually got an HP convertable laptop that I use in both tablet and laptop mode. Put it into table mode, fire up OneNote and meetings are a breeze.

Just because there aren't very many manufacturers exploiting the functionality, doesn't mean it doesn't work.

INQ Poll

Authorities in several countries raided Megaupload recently, shut down all of its services, seized hundreds of servers and arrested several of its executives on criminal charges.

Do you think the move was justified?
