SELLER OF TOYS Apple has shifted a lot of Ipads since it released the touchy dumb terminal a month ago.
Since Apple threw open its doors to people with more money than sense on April 3rd, one million punters have thrown their hard earned cash at the Ipad.
Not only that, juiced up on the adrenaline that comes with owning something shiny, they've also splashed out in its stores, and snarfed up some 12 million apps and 1.5 million e-books.
Developers, well those that meet Apple's firm and unfriendly terms and conditions, have helped this by creating 5,000 new applications for the handheld gogglebox, meaning that it's big numbers all round at Apple - particularly we imagine in the App Store and Ibook store accounting departments.
"One million Ipads in 28 days-that's less than half of the 74 days it took to achieve this milestone with Iphone," chortled Steve Jobs, Apple's CEO.
"Demand continues to exceed supply and we're working hard to get this magical product into the hands of even more customers."
Magical? Like a bean might be?
We wonder if Apple takes 'cow'. µ
One million is not what you think it is. Today's PR from corporates tend to speak around facts.
The one million are the fulfilled orders. It doesn't mean those are in the hands of the consumer.
There are billions of PCs in use worldwide. One million is barely a raindrop in a barrel of water.
This number is also irrelevant as the initial release of a product always makes sales number seem high. You can't average 1 or 2 months of sales figures. You need 6 to 9 months to get a real picture of how sales are going. Projects this early are inaccurate. No one can or will know how much to expect until there are enough points on the chart to show a trend.
One also has to ask those that have purchased the product if it is meeting their needs or their expectations. Did the unit do what you thought it would and how much of that is it meeting? You can't ask if you would recommend it to a friend because there's no real possibility that they've had enough time to deal with any technical issues or to judge the company's customer service effectiveness.
Suffice it to say, that number is misleading and is just a bit if PR speak to keep sales growing.
Anyone know the failure rate of the device or any of it's components or the satisfaction rate as to how well the device met their expectations?
the device has no specific purpose, its just a gimmick for the 'i gotta get me one of those' morons of the world.
i cannot do anything that cant be done better by existing alternative hardware.
"look at the shiny shiny!" (and hand over your £400)
Is to make a Linux distro specifically made to run on a touchscreen and also specifically made for both HD and standard video(and maybe a dynamic stretchy option for the low quality stuff) and put it on a similar device. If it's going to be general purpose it would have to have an alternate input method for stuff, probably voice.
To be honest, I think that the sellers of these types of things should specifically state that it's an entertainment device and is not being sold as a general purpose computer. That way people can do what they want with it and there will be fewer chances for silly lawsuits later on.
According to Apple's stats, they've shifted 1 million iPads and 1.5 million ebooks for it. Since the first million ebooks were the one that came free with the machine, then only half (at best) of the owners were convinced to go back for another.
The other half must have gone blind.
this just shows how many iDiots there are out there. I'm sure it will still grow.
I like it, but I think you should go with "Terminally Dumb Toucher."
I'm breathlessly following Ipad stories as a phenomenon. Seems to be a MAJOR topic, nothing else going on.
So. Is this the ONLY million they'll sell? (Trying to staying objective: probably NOT.) But is there ANY real use for the thing? ... Hmm. It'd be NEAT at a third the price, assuming you could play any old videos on it. That price level is about what you can find the picture frame type LCDs for, which *do* play videos... So, objectively as I can, still say that this phenom will flicker out soon enough.
if theyre anything like microshaft (i think so) then this number will be fabricated.
i might believe it if an unconnected 3rd party disclosed the information but this info has come from apple themselves!
jobbie must think consumers were born yesterday
