SATAsfy SSD tips up

Amped to 11
Tue Apr 27 2010, 13:07

STORAGE VENDOR Accelerated Memory Production (Amp) has announced a 2.5-inch solid state drive (SSD) it calls SATAsfy.

Amp claims its SATAsfy drive is an enterprise level drive for servers and mobile environments. The SSD has a SATA 3.0 interface and is built using single level cell (SLC) NAND Flash memory.

SLC NAND is more expensive and will bump the cost up when Amp gets around to announcing a price. However, Amp said it will provide longer life and nippier performance.

The SATAsfy SSD will have built-in 12 byte per sector ECC error correction. It's not the fastest SSD that's been announced but it does have a sequential read transfer rate of 260MBps and a sequential write transfer rate of 150MBps.

Amp will be making its SSDs available in capacities ranging from 32GB to 256GB and claims the drives can withstand 200Gs of shock.

The company has not yet announced a release date or prices. µ

@Almost there

You only need the SSD for the OS and maybe games. After that, unless you need _really_ fast access to one's pr0n cache, you might as well keep a cheap HD for bulk storage.

Almost there

At 256GB, that will almost hold my OS + games.

Wake me up when they reach real sizes for a real price.

Price?

If you have to ask, you can't afford it.

I'm SATAsfied

Pretty nice someone else jumps into the ssd bandwagon. However, I'm still on platters, 3 samsung 320GB and I'm planning expanding my raid0 to 5 drives.

ssd!

sounds like good SSD's, but with Western Digital now being in the SSD market, I know I'll be only buying theirs when I make the jump, and I'm sure many others will do the same. WD just can't be beat!
