Vodafone fails to confirm Nexus One arrival

Delays might derail Android smartphone
Fri Apr 23 2010, 14:38

MOBILE OPERATOR Vodafone is unwilling to confirm reports that Google's Nexus One mobile phone will be available through its network in April, suggesting that the device might have suffered further delays.

The Nexus One was launched in January as the flagship Android OS smartphone, but repeated delays have meant that it is yet to appear in the UK. The word on the street was that the device would turn up on Vodafone's network at the end of April, however a spokesperson for the firm wasn't willing to confirm those reports, instead saying that the device will appear in the "Spring".

With other devices such as HTC's Desire and Sony's Xperia X10 hogging the smartphone limelight and Jobs' Mob getting its latest creation ready to launch, Vodafone's delay could result in the Nexus One missing the boat.

Meanwhile, a video has surfaced of a Nexus One handset with 802.11n WiFi capability. The Broadcom chipset in the device supports the wireless networking standard but the drivers have yet to enable it. The video increases the likelyhood of a software update in the near future bringing WiFi functionality to the Google smartphone.

Eager punters can still acquire the Nexus One by paying over the odds at a number of online retailers. However, until a major operator such as Vodafone picks up the handset, it is unlikely that the Nexus One will attain the sales figures that were expected at launch or be an affordable option for the majority of punters. µ

voice control

The nexus one has dual noise cancelling mics. The Desire does not. This is important because not only do the people you are calling get clear sound of your voice with no background noise but it means voice control, a huge android feature, works much better cause it get clear sound waves to analyse, even in noisy environment.

You missed the point.

The whole point of the N1 is that it is an unlocked phone, and NOT "modified" or crippled by carriers.

One gets it to avoid carrier lock-ins, plans, etc.
DIRECTLY from Google.

Sales of Nexus One are not in the US on T-Mobile, AT&T, or sprint.
Not in Canada on Wind, Rogers, Telus and Bell
And will be NOT in Europe on Vodafone or other carriers.

Now go back to your Apple masters and ask them for a better FUD tactic..
You are not fooling anyone..

Doesn't matter

The Nexus One isn't really a big deal anymore, not with the HTC desire being widely available. It's the same freaking phone! Except the Desire has a better GUI.
