Google Maps Navigation was unveiled at a London launch event today, and we got some video footage of the sat-nav system in action.
Google has enabled the turn-by-turn GPS navigation on all devices running Android version 1.6 or later. The system had been available only in the US until now.
While previously navigation was possible, this is the first time that free turn-by-turn GPS based navigation has tipped up on Android. As the firm has been maturing its Maps service for some time, several overlays are available allowing the user to view traffic, points of interest and, where available, Street View. µ
It's more can I get a signal to download the next bit of map.
@Alan Aren't all Android handsets sold with unlimited data?
The main problem is still the data charge associated with google map. The need for a high speed internet link will mean that this solution wouldn't be suitable at all for Australia.
Small towns without proper mobile data connection is the last place you want to be lost in.
If there is a pay version where the data are locally stored on the mobile and allows the map to be updated whenever you choose then it'd be great.
