FLOGGER OF SHINY TOYS Apple's decision to delay the sale of the Ipad to the rest of the world is proving a bit of a bonanza for resellers in the US, even though it might be just a clever marketing ploy.
The unofficial peddlers of Apple gear have been scooping up Ipads and flogging them on Ebay and Craigslist at inflated prices.
They have also been buying up the things from those who were a little disappointed with Jobs' dream and selling them on to Apple fanbois in Europe who can't wait until May.
Todd Davis, proprietor of ToddsToyz.com, a Boston-based web retailer, told Reuters that there is a huge demand from overseas. He is buying as many as he can and shipping them around the globe.
His outfit charges $100 to $150 over list price for the devices, though some retailers on Ebay were asking $1,200 or more for a high-end model that Apple sells for $699, the components of which are worth about $250.
Although it might be good business for Davis, Reuters points out that the number of machines involved is small. Davis has flogged only five so far and planned to spend Wednesday afternoon scouring Boston area Apple stores and Best Buy outlets for more.
British e-tailer PurelyGadgets.co.uk was selling the tablets for £590 to £790. Reuters was told it was almost sold out, but didn't say how many they had in stock. µ
Since the no-fly over europe looks like it's not going to end anytime soon, all those iPads are going nowhere.
And If this keeps up, there'll be no airlines left to ship them anyway...:p

Hope you're selling options against those shares.
It's something awful in this world that most of you can't visualize. I think it's very important to understand the lack of competition which results in this insane market price. A damn piece of 250 -useless- dollar and at the same time people are paying 1000$ in order to get one.
Even though INQ articles often suffer from a mess of criticism against the site itself, we other should continue what we were doing. Just sit back and don't spend our fucking time to reply in these comments. The same applies to INQ.

There's nothing wrong with providing the component price. But the point comes across as snide and suggests that a retail price closer to the component cost is what should be expected. It might have been too subtle for some to notice, especially those not used to higher quality writing.
In a story about Windows 7 would you expect to see the cost of the physical DVD and packaging relative to the retail price?

That's what makes component price important, it's how much the rest of us can laugh at Apple ripping you off for a netbook with a small touchscreen and no keyboard.
Apple Fanbois, please keep coming back and helping The Inq improve it's advertising income.
Nick
what a sorry story, Brian
Dear Inq please forward all the apple fanboys to http://www.apple.com/hotnews/
That way they can be happy with the apple approved stories.
BTW, "Your article is only worth" the add space you sold to smart guy over here reading and viewing ads.
Either way its not surprising that apple fanboys are euro thrash to is it?
Dear Inquirer,
Please hire a JOURNALIST to write your articles. Microsoft fanboys who historically have a dearth of technical and computer knowledge shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a keyboard or the general public.
You were joking when you put in the line about component price right? Your article is only worth less than a cent. That's the cost of the used paper and toner if someone printed it.
Your comment about the cost of ipad components makes no sense in this context. As if people could a. Acquire the components at that same price(they can't) or b. Assemble their own ipad
really, what's the point ? Materials are far from the only cost in producing the device.
you can't have it both ways. First it was people who bought the iPad by mistake and were trying to get shot of them on eBay etc. Now it's greedy resellers doing the same thing. Which of those two are you going for? (hint: they are the same people)
Similarly you try to push the line that they won't sell in volume, then you try to re-spin 500K+ sales in a week and Apple having trouble matching demand with production as a marketing gimmick.
You don't have to like Apple. You don't have to like or buy their kit. As a journalist though we expect you to be rather more analytical and concerned with facts rather than opinions.
