There's a significant school of thought that... Windows' success happened because of Solitaire - Wendy M. Grossman
DETAILS OF TWO Android-based handsets have emerged, with information coming through about LG and HTC mobiles.
In a post published today, LG referred to the warm reception that its previous Android handset received and talked up its next release, which it said is an Android phone for the 'serious smart user'.
The handset has a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, a 3.5-inch capacitive touchscreen, a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, WiFi, DivX support, and, for the stalkers out there, a 5mp camera with geo-tagging.
"Allow me to introduce the InTouch Max's big brother, the LG LU2300", wrote Joe O. "With a 1GHz processor as standard it packs enough of a punch to compete for the affections of Android smartphone users with the likes of the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 and the HTC Legend."
Specifications of another Android handset from HTC have also appeared. BoyGenius has the stats on the forthcoming HTC Incredible, courtesy of a Verizon reseller.
The Incredible, or ADR6300, also has the 1GHz Snapdragon Processor, and like the LG unit will run Android 2.1. Other tempting features include its 3.7-inch WVGA OLED capacitive display, 8mp camera, 512MB of ROM and RAM, and 802.11b/g/n and WiFi connections.
Both handsets offer quick access to Google's cloud-based suite of productivity applications. µ
If these open-source Android phones are a hit, they may ruin the proprietary party of Microsoft and Apple.
Both Microsoft and Apple are bent on building proprietary locked-down walled-garden phones. For example, Microsoft's coming Windows Phone 7 will only allow you to buy apps from Microsoft and nobody else. Ballmer will be the one who decides what apps you can and can't have.
But Android, as well as Nokia's Meego, are both open-source, and as such, will be a threat to iPhone and Windows Phone 7.

Droid is actually a specific phone that is produced by Motorola, which happens to use Andorid as the OS, just like iPhone is from Apple and Desire is from HTC.
If I missed your point, my apologies.
Most of the people I know, myself included, refer to all of the Google phones as "Droid". Doesn't this count?
Personally, I like Droid better than iPhone. Droid kinda sounds Sci-Fi cool, while iPhone conjures images of smug yuppie-ness and overpaying for the sake of keeping up with trends. But maybe that's just me.
Heres a quick tip for LG, Nokia and a few other manufactures out there.
As much as I hate Apple they get top marketing points. The iPhone sold well not only because of Apples marketing, but because it had a name.
All Googles phones have names, although the G1 and G2 were more nerdy being a letter AND a number.
Google, selling less than the iphone due to the iphones 'friendly' and easily remembered name for the masses rather than the 'Cool to nerds sounding' letter then number scheme,
still managed to grab market share over long established companies.
Motorola had a similar story when they went to names with the RAZR.
HTC are now gaining market share and guess what? They NAME their phones now instead of giving it a model number.
Basically, in plain Englsih.
Give a phone a model number the general public dont care and dont remember what they have.
Give it a 'cool' sounding name like the X5 or N900 and it appeals to a small market of geeks.
Give it an inspirining name like Desire, Magic, Icon etc and you have a phone that appeals to the masses (with the exception of again nerdy names such as 'Nexus' or 'HD')
The general public are not technology assosciative, they like feeling, descriptive or inspiring association.
And this is coming from a geek, nerd etc........ Its pretty obvious,
