IF YOU'RE INTO GAMES then surely you'll have played an arcade game or two.
Maybe more than just once or twice. But perhaps you haven't seen all of them, or even the best ones. If so, V3 has rounded up the top arcade games to fix that deplorable gap in your education. µ
No 1942? Double Dragon?
Good list none the less anyway :)
What arcade did these guys go to?
Amongst the many greats listed here by other folks, while Tekken MAY have edged out Mortal Kombat (if you combined MK 1-3, Tekken loses, no contest) but I think no quarters were spent more on any of those games in my arcade than on Street Fighter II <championship and Double Dragon before that. There used to be lines at Double Dragon in convenience stores.
As for their list, I can understand Pac-Man (if you're including Ms. PacMan, ie. the "pac-man series") and donkey kong is a no brainer. But After Burner? I mean After Burner was in every arcade, but I rarely saw lines for it. I'd believe Galaga and Dig Dug first. Maybe TMNT 4 player. But Time Crisis? The name in of itself describes the state of the arcades when that game was out. If it's a high seller it's only because it probably cost four quarters and probably was asking you for more quarters after 10-15 seconds. The gotta be kidding me. I even liked Spy Hunter, but come on man, Frogger had to have destroyed their 6-10 alone.
1-5, I can deal with... 6-10... your arcade sucked...
It seems to me that there were a whole load of 70's/80's classic arcade games missings from the list (in no particular order):
Lunar Lander
Asteroids
Defender
Dig Dug
Galaxian
Galaga
Gorf
Arkanoid
Frogger
Joust
Phoenix
Robotron: 2084
Missile Command
Mr. Do
Star Wars
Tempest
Tron
Centipede
Missing out Asteroids and Defender in particular was a crime - both very popular and not similar to previous games (whereas you could argue that, say, Galaxian was a variation of Space Invaders).
No Galaga?
bah, not one mention of outrun or mr do.
Out of all the arcade games ever made he only listed a couple that remain playable. The top arcade game exeriences are 4 or more players:
golden axe
dungeons and dragons
ninja turtles
gauntlet
rampage
aliens vs predator
saturday night slam masters
and co-op games where you can "accidentally" hurt each other like Ikari Warriors and Double Dragon. My list is way better. You would never see pac-man at my house, Ms.Pac-man maybe.
