APPLE FANBOIS IN THE US will get HTML5-encoded TV for the Ipad, according to the Wall Street Journal.
CBS and ABC are launching services that offer their respective TV shows for the Ipad. The shows are due to be streamed for free from the same day that Apple launches the Ipad, but punters will be assailed with advertising breaks.
ABC is going to use a streaming Ipad application it has been working on for viewers to see the shows. CBS however is going down a slightly different route and will stream its content directly through the Ipad's built-in web browser. This means it'll offer one of the first HTML5 encoded shows.
The WSJ quoted Neil Ashe, president of CBS Interactive, who said, "We're working very hard to make as much of it available as possible. Over time, it'll be the same as online."
So far NBC hasn't made any announcements.
Apple hasn't said how these moves will affect its Itunes store.
Having the three major US networks streaming shows for the Ipad is sure to have a knock-on effect for Apple's cash revenue from the few people who actually use its Itunes store to buy and download TV episodes. µ
@Blah.
They do it to stir up comments. Same as the way they snigger when they all write Ipad instead of iPad and Iphone etc.
It's a shame as there's always a place for irreverence in tech reporting, and I've read the INQ for years, but god does it get tedious when it's the same old same old constantly.
It's like Little Britain. Fairly amusing the first time but after you've seen the same joke umpteen times the novelty quickly wears off.
if it isn't possible to write an article, any article, dealing with Apple without referring to 'fanbois' just don't do it. this 'publication' is so childish. I'm not even a fanboi, it's just a turn off.
but HTML5 isn't an encoding. Both Flash and HTML5 use h.264 encoded video. HTML5 is about the presentation layer, and how you tell the browser to display encoded video content.
