AMD plays nice with Rambus

Renews patent license agreement
Thu Apr 01 2010, 12:23

CHIP DESIGN HOUSE AMD has renewed its patent license agreement with serial memory patents litigator Rambus.

In a bid to avoid a lawsuit, Chimpzilla has agreed to cough up more cash to Rambus by extending the contract license for its integrated circuit and circuit board products, which was due to expire in September, through to the latter half of 2015.

According to Rambus licensing and marketing senior vice president Sharon Holt, the company is looking "forward to further opportunities to align the interests of our companies."

The amount that AMD will pay is set to be determined at the end of the year and is due to be paid in quarterly instalments, possibly in a brown paper bag. µ

Court found Rambus deceptive

In fact, the courts have found Rambus's behavior in the standard setting process to have been deceptive. The presumption is that, had Rambus disclosed their technology (they were not prevented, that's a laugh), the other JEDEC members would have either avoided the patents or had the opportunity to negotiate a reasonable license agreement at the time. The court decisions have hinged not on whether Rambus's behavior was deceptive, but rather on the technicality of whether it was explicitly attempting to gain monopoly power. Legally, there's no disagreement these were submarine patents and that Rambus was deliberately deceptive.

Rambus prevailing

JEDEC? RMBS was the only company in JEDEC who was not allowed to present their technology. Kelly of IBM was the chair. Previously RMBS had 36 Non Disclosure Agreements with almost all parties to JEDEC. Members routinely violated these NDA's. Micron promoted the FTC trial against RMBS. Originally filed on the FTC web site om MU legal letterhead. This was documented on rambus.org The FTC totally lost that case all the way to the Supreme Court. This case cleared RMBS of all bogus charges from their actions in JEDEC. The Cartel formed by MU, Hynix, Infineon, et al hired 4 industry pundits to slam RMBS. Thus the erroneous vilification seen in the above article and comments. Lies repeated enough will eventually become facts. A 10+ yrs of litigation to vindicate RMBS is nearing a successful end. RMBS broke the memory bottle neck in 1989. Get onboard the BUS to benefit from their approaching victory. Samsung and AMD just did. Others will soon follow. The truth is finally winning.

Get a clue ...

1)RAMBUS is publicly traded Nasdaq 50 member Symbol RMBS.

2) Samsung recently settled with Rambus paying over $900 Million and buying 8% of the company shares.

3) Hynix Lost its patent suit and paid over $300 milion in damages currently in bond pending appeal.

4) Co Conspirators Micron and Hynix (with former Samsung) are currently being sued for illegal price fixing in an attempt to put Rambus out of business. Micron and Hynix have already plead guilty to this collusion in a related case.

REMEMBER THESE WORDS!

"ALL COMPUTERS WILL BE BUILT THIS WAY HOPEFULLY NON OF THE ROYALITYS WILL GO TO RAMBUS"! WELLI MEYER FROM INFINION! THIS THIEF COULD SEE THE WORTH OF RAMBUS'S PATENTS 10 YEARS AGO. Facts are stubborn things; and whatever may be our wishes, our inclinations, or the dictates of our passions, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence.

Let me rewrite that for you

According to Rambus Recovery and Enforcement capone Sharon Holt, the family is looking "to all of you who haven't contributed to the cause yet".

Spokes-Holes...

...senior vice president Sharon Holt said, "the company is looking forward to further opportunities to align the interests of our companies."

Don't you just love these lines of politically correct, mean something else, management bullsh*t?

Is there a special school of "Horse Crap" that these over-paid, bone heads have to attend before being hired?

Sorry, I just 'really' hate these types of sudo-managers ('Going-forward', that is...)

Over to you guys:

Love,

buy it?

I don't think Rambus is publicly traded. They've got too many patents on memory to just let themselves be sold off, as much as I would like to see them be driven into the ground.

They're like the SCO of the memory world, but this time they actually own some of the patents. AMD probably figures it's easier to pay them and not worry about it than get into a fight like Samsung, Micron, Nvidia, and others.

Their whole JEDEC dealings still leaves a sour taste in my mouth.

Buy the shitty company

Couldnt just AMD, Nvidia, Intel, Samsung, Micron etc just set aside their respective diffrences and buy Rambus and make all their patents open for everyone.. must be cheaper then buying the maffia every quater...
