Nanya will raise DRAM prices

Ten per cent hike
Wed Mar 31 2010, 11:25

MEMORY MAKER Nanya is set to raise DRAM contract prices by 10 per cent in April.

According to the Chinese-language Commercial Times, the company thinks that the market has shown much strength compared to the same period in previous years.

The DRAM manufacturer hiked the contract prices of its chips by 6 to 10 per cent in March so that means that prices have shot up over the last couple of months.

Spot prices for 1Gb DDR2 and same-density DDR3 remained above $3, according to data gathered by DRAMexchange.

Prices soared beyond the $3 mark on March 26 but that was thanks to a power outage at Samsung Electronics' fabs.

DRAMexchange is still predicting that the market for DRAM chips might face a shortage in the second half of the year. µ
