T-Mobile's Desire ships

Granting punters' wishes
Fri Mar 26 2010, 17:56

MOBILE OPERATOR T-Mobile is sending out confusing signals about the availability of the much anticipated HTC Desire smartphone.

After our original piece on the devices arrival, readers contacted us mentioning that the Desire, which looks a lot like the Nexus One, has been delayed. The mobile operator had sent one of our readers a text message informing of a delay and another got told that the handset failed a quality control check.

The Desire was one of the lauded trio of Android devices launched by HTC at this year's Mobile World Congress. T-Mobile has been a staunch supporter of Android for some time now and it's not surprising that subscribers want to get their mitts on one of the most exciting Android devices.

So on behalf of our readers we poked T-Mobile earlier today but were unable to get an answer. The spokeswoman said that an answer from the firm should tip up later in the day and sure enough it did, in the form of a Twitter message.

According to the message, T-Mobile has the devices in stock and is shipping to punters. The firm is usually quite good at getting devices out sharpish but this confusion will have left those eager to try the latest Android set frustrated and possibly looking elsewhere.

For T-Mobile subscribers in line for the Desire, we'd love to know if and when you get yours. µ

Ordered Mine...Waiting

I upgraded to this phone on the 30th and was told they were currently out of stock but should be expecting them the next day. Nothing on the 31st so I called up this morning and was told they are expecting stock to come in today (1st April) - maybe some sort of April Fools joke but still heard nothing yet. Will keep you posted.

Got Mine!!

Hi,

Got mine delivered on Saturday as an upgrade and got a bit of detail on the situation from a T-Mobile Store.

Yes, the store won't get them until after Easter.

The Handset WAS stopped over a QC issue but passed very late Thursday Night (25/03), the Direct Sales team were able to sell these straight away (on Friday 26/03) if you had phoned up, but all stock was sold by approx 4pm.

When I phoned at around 2pm they had just over 1300 still in stock.

Just Upgraded

Hi,
Well i've been after this phone for some time now, and after finding on the tmobile website the option to find out more i filled in my email address and waited for my info. On Monday i got my email confirming that tmobile had it in stock so i called them to get mine only to be told their for new customers only.... i was very very angry at this point. I've got 3 contracts on one bill and spend a lot of money every month. I called again this morning to be told we don't have the pricing for friends and family customers so that was it for me!! my partner called at 6.30 this evening and finally i get my Desire. Out of stock for today so i'm expecting a text message on monday to say it's on it's way. Got the phone for free on an upgrade with a £30 flex with free internet....... that's a grand total of £15 per month for my 900 mins, 500 texts and free internet!! Happy days : )
