Asus launches G73 gaming laptop

Based on stealth fighter design
Wed Mar 24 2010, 15:30

THOSE OF YOU who have always dreamed of a career as a fighter pilot can soon settle for second best with the Asus G73 laptop, based on the design of a stealth fighter.

UK gamers can get their hands on Asus' latest souped up laptop in early April at a cost of £1,899.

The G73 boasts an Intel Core i7 processor, DirectX 11-capable ATI Radeon HD5870 graphics, support for up to 16GB of DDR3 system memory - the model comes with 8GB as standard - and 1TB of storage space. Asus has also added one-click, on the fly overclocking.

Asus has also kindly shoved the heat and noise-generating components at the rear, and has lumped in a twin rear venting system so users will have a lovely peaceful environment in which to blast all the heads off those aliens.

According to Asus, the model has "an understated, subtly aggressive design inspired by the iconic and unsurpassed stealth fighter itself, the F-117 Nighthawk". We're not convinced about the whole subtle yet aggressive thing, but you can watch our video, that we handily filmed at CeBIT at the beginning of March, and decide for yourselves. µ

Alternative for 3D developers

I`m 3D graphic designer. I would say that this laptop is a good alternative for Workstation a specialy when You have to work with Your clients and moving a lot of production data is a problem.

Great idea :) Nice hardware :)

Another Prone to fail machine

Now when i say that, i dont mean fail in terms of sales, i mean fail in terms of hardware. Something all high performance laptops have in comon are video card chip issues. Google dell xps 1710 or 1730 video card issue (or any other manufacturers high performance laptops that use a top of the line vidi card), and you will see the major issue with high heat small chip package issue. I predict that the video card will quit just 2 weeks after the factory warranty is up. And a replacement card is in the range of 500$. I found that out the hard way... Main Cause for this problem, ROHS laws using crappy lead free solder for the ball feet of the chips. Its a major issue!

Useless!

Boutique laptops such as this are a waste of time.

I have a friend that keeps buying these machines and every one of them has major flaws. Always a major part doesnt work, fails or is just plain buggy and cant be fixed.

The latest high-end gear in a laptop is always rushed to market, poorly implemented and designed.

Get something mass produced and mid-range instead.

Dude...

I saw you twiddling the mouse after you opened the lid. How come the screen didn't come back on?

Another UK price ripoff

From Xoticpc the price of the system is $1645 (see link http://www.xoticpc.com/custom-gaming-laptops-notebooks-gaming-laptops-ct-118_96_98.html). Even with UK VAT and shipping, the price should be under £1400

@Dan

"All that power and still enough space to store games."

Fixed that for you.

The day an SSD can hold my steam install (appx 320GB) for under $1000 is the day I will possibly think of getting one. Not to mention other games I play.

What I really Liked

What I really liked is the full numerical keypad. I miss it a lot on several cheaper notebooks. I don´t need this stealth pricey laptop, but the layout is great. U$650 for a decent laptop with 3 hours battery and numerical keypad is what I need

Crippled

All that power and still a mechanical HDD. Such a shame..

Well I must say...

First thing, how is this article any different than the article from March 5th? Same video, same coverage, I'm pretty sure. Second, I don't care how ugly it is (and it certainly is), those specs for that price make this more desirable than any overpriced high-end gaming notebook on the market. Period. Everything you want for a mid-range price, awesome.
