Wed Mar 24 2010, 13:33

FLOGGER OF EXPENSIVE PRINTER INK HP today unveiled a mini version of its Z-series workstation.

The Z200 SFF has Intel's six-core, 32nm Xeon 5600 processor and HP is targeting the smaller chassis anywhere that space might be constrained in health care, engineering, education and financial businesses and for OEMs.

According to HP, the Z200 SFF is three times smaller than the standard tower chassis and supports up to 16GB of memory and 2TB of storage. It has a tool-less case for easier servicing and sports green credentials with an 89 per cent efficient power supply plus Energy Star 5 qualified components. They are also 90 per cent recyclable.

There are several flavours on offer with a range of configurable specifications and features on the HP Z800, Z600, Z400 and Z200. The HP Z800 has a Xeon 5500 or 5600 CPU and up to dual Nvidia Quadro FX 5800 graphics. The HP Z600 also the same Intel CPU choice with an Nvidia Quadro FX 4800 or dual Nvidia Quadro FX 1800 graphics. The HP Z400 bumps down to a Xeon 3500 with a Nvidia Quadro FX 4800 or dual Nvidia Quadro FX 1800 graphics.

"HP has invested in research and development through the economic downturn, innovating on top of our industry-leading workstations to provide an undeniably differentiated experience in our new products," said Jim Zafarana, vice president and general manager of the workstations global business unit at HP. "HP customers are famous for pushing the limits of innovation, and as their industries undergo digital transformations, their next generation of breakthroughs is being powered by HP technology."

The HP Z200 SFF Workstation is expected to be available worldwide starting April 5. It's priced in the U.S at £495 but there's no word on UK pricing yet. Naturally, expect that to bump up by at least £100. µ
