AMD boss got a pay cut
WHILE INTEL CEO Paul Otellini got pay rises and pats on the back, this year his rival AMD's Dirk Meyer has seen his salary cut.
Despite making AMD turn a profit for the first time in three years Meyer has seen his salary cut by 15 per cent.
According to documents filed with the US Securities and Exchange Commission, Meyer received compensation in fiscal 2009 valued at $4.5 million, compared to $5.3 million in 2008.
Of course this does not mean that he will have to start shopping at poundsaver, but it is a bit of a slap.
He did get a $45,000 bonus which we suppose is better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.
The reason Meyer had his salary cut back was because all employees had their base salaries temporarily decreased by 15 to 20 per cent during 2009 so he was suffering along with the rest of them.
Meyer also received stock and option awards valued at $3.7 million, so if you see a bloke on a street corner with a dog on a string it is unlikely to be Meyer.
Ironically AMD did so well because Paul Otellini had to write the company a huge cheque. µ
