AMD and Intel price details are leaked

Why wait for the press release?

RIVAL X86 CHIPMAKERS AMD and Intel are both fuming after pricing information on their latest chips has been printed by the Far Eastern trade press.

Although it is not as if the chips have been handed to hacks in brown paper envelopes. The chips were seen on sale from e-retailers.

The prices leaked include AMD's forthcoming six-core challengers dubbed Phenom II X6 and Intel's Gulftown six-core Core i7-980X.

It looks like three Phenom II X6 processors will become available in the second quarter of 2010. These will be the 2.6GHz 1035T, the 2.8GHz 1055T, and the 3GHz 1075T. Pricing for the 1055T is about $199, while a previously unannounced 3.2GHz 1090T Black Edition will cost $295. Another six-core AMD processor, the 1095T, will become available in 4Q 2010.

Meanwhile Chipzilla will release a dual-core Core i5-680, which, at $284, will cost nearly as much as a six-core AMD chip. Intel also will release a quad-core Core i7-870, which is a lower-voltage CPU at 82 Watts TDP priced at $560.

Intel also plans to release unlocked CPUs for the enthusiast crowd. Each of new unlocked processors will be marked with the K suffix on its model name.

Chipzilla's gear is difficult to unlock and overclock, although users have still been able to modify the front side bus speed.

The Core i7-875K will be unlocked, although it's not clear if Intel plans to release more of these chips. µ

Finaly TURBO MODE

Much of Intel's performance lead in some single threaded applications was due to it's Turbo ability. Single threaded performance is important in most games … so AMD’s image took a heavy blow. Now that AMD has it’s TURBO, we won't se that 40% delta in Intel's favor but half of that. And yes, who the Fmuck would pay 300% of the money for 20% more performance ?

most importantly

i note that intel are maintaining their policy of being an absolute and thorough monumental rippoff in the pricing of their products

but then again, a fool and their money are easily parted

err

First you mention Core i7-980X as one of the leaked prices but you don't mention the price.Ofc it's not needed since we all know the 999$ MSRP and the thing is even listed on newegg (at 1140$).
And this is just hilarious "Chipzilla's gear is difficult to unlock and overclock, although users have still been able to modify the front side bus speed."
There is no FSB anymore on anything newer than Core 2 Duo and it's damn easy to OC a Nehalem.
