Spinvox rolls over and plays dead

Company closing accounts
Fri Mar 19 2010, 16:13

VOICE TO TEXT STARTUP Spinvox has sent out an ominous message to users saying it's automatically closing down individual accounts in seven days.

According to a tweet by Rory Cellan-Jones, the BBC's tech correspondent, a friend recieved a message from Spinvox stating who has had ongoing verbal fisticuffs with Spinvox over its suspect voice to text service.

The announcement simply said, "We regret to inform you that SpinVox is no longer supporting individual user accounts. Your account will expire in 7 days."

The future doesn't look bright for Spinvox and our efforts to inquire about this turn of events were stonewalled on every front. Its UK PR company said only one person worked on the account and will not be back until next week. Its brand experience manager said her boss couldn't respond because she was on maternity leave in France with bad mobile reception but pointed us to Richard Mac, a talking head for Nuance Communications, the company that bought Spinvox late last year. Naturally there was no mobile or email contact.

We reported last year that Nuance Communications bought Spinvox after the debacle with the BBC hack over alleged data protection breaches. The problem for Spinvox was making grandiose statements over its "automated" voice to text service when it was in fact using call centres in South Africa and the Philippines. µ

VoxSciences

I was a bit surprised when I got the message from SpinVox as it is a great and useful facility. Please to say - that VoxScience was so simple to set up - and seems to be equally as good.....and the web site is very simple to use......

yeah it's true

Spinvox uses callcenters in diferent parts of the planet to convert voicemails.

The only thing I can say is that there are several in Argentina, Colombia, Peru(my place), Chile (yeah mostly southamerica) and that we not only did transcribe in English, but in Spanish and German too.

Authorities in several countries raided Megaupload recently, shut down all of its services, seized hundreds of servers and arrested several of its executives on criminal charges.

Do you think the move was justified?
