Sony launches Vaio M

Cut price netboook out

JAPANESE PC MAKER Sony has launched its Vaio M netbook that Tesco's Direct gave us a good glimpse of a couple of weeks ago.

Sony's Vaio M is a 10.1-inch netboook, or what the Japanese consumer electronics outfit calls a mini-notebook. It has a 1.66GHz Intel Atom processor with 1GB of memory, a respectable 250GB hard drive and is preloaded with Window 7 Starter Edition.

It's reasonably light at 1.3kg and we're surprised to note that Sony is bundling a 6-cell battery rather than a 3-cell. We expect that should hold enough power for it to take a short-haul flight without dying.

The screen has a 1200x600 display with an LED backlight and the system's connectivity ports include WiFi, Bluetooth and three USB ports. Sony has also fitted a camera that it calls Motion Eye for video chatting. Punters can buy the Vaio M netbook in any colour as long as it's black.

Tesco's price for the Sony Vaio M is £299. It will be out this month. µ
