ATI puts out a Firepro driver update

Performance gains and Displayport audio

GRAPHICS FIRM ATI has given a leg up to Firepro users with the release of a graphics driver that promises a hefty performance boost.

According to the AMD bods version 8.702 of the ATI FirePro graphics driver has been tuned to within an inch of it's life, speeding up the likes of Dassault Systèmes Catia, Autodesk 3ds Max and PTC Proengineer by between 20 and 25 per cent, while Photoshop CS4 users can now render images with 10-bit^2 per component colour.

Not one to be left out of the 3D hype, the new drivers add blue-line stereo for synchronizing 3D glasses is now supported, on top of the other existing active, passive and autostereoscopic display support.

Last, but certainly not least, the latest drivers add DisplayPort audio on select ATI FirePro professional graphics cards, which allows for 5.1 Dolby Digital and 5.1 DTS surround sound as well as eight channel and dual channel uncompressed audio

Coming down the line, Chimpzilla says it is working with manufacturers to start pushing out bi-monthly driver updates for notebooks using Firepro graphics.
