Crack the Victorinox code

£100,000 if you can
Thu Mar 11 2010, 16:55

VICTORINOX, a Swiss maker of devices for getting stones out of horses' feet, has announced that it will pay £100,000 to anyone that can crack its new biometric USBvictorinox-2storage tool.

The firm announced the competition today, saying, "Calling all computer whizzes, programming champions and coding kings: imagine a storage device that thinks it's a hard drive and is completely un-hackable. Don't think it is possible? Prove Victorinox wrong by breaking the code and win £100,000."

Anyone that wants to take part will have a two-hour session with the device, which offers a couple of its famous multi-function tools along with the memory thumbstick.

The event will happen later this month, 25 and 26 March, at the firm's flagship store in London.

Throwing down its gauntlet, careful with the knife, Victorinox added, "US experts were unable to beat the Secure Pro when it was previewed at the global CES Show in Las Vegas, can their European peers prove more successful?"

Comdex ran for a full four days, as did the contest. Forty-five people had a go and none of them managed it. Mind you, two hours is a long time to spend at any vendors exhibition stand, whether there is money involved or not.

Full entry details are available online. We will not be charging any successful players a finders fee, but we do wish them the best of luck. µ

Prize fools!

They've just made themselves look stupid...

Their competition is stating that if you can't crack it in under 2 hours, then it's uncrackable... lol

What about when it goes on general sale?!

Airport booty

An interesting toy/novelty, but not much good for anyone who flies though, which is a shame.

and this proves what?

Once the product goes on sale, hackers will be able to spend as much time as they like on it. After it's cracked, the hack solution will be available to all and the Two Hour Victrinox marketing ploy won't do you any good.

Two Hours more than Enough

Because no one will ever have more than two hours access to your device once you lose it.

Possible scenario

baddy: I want the information off this swiss army USB key!

you: No, you can't have it, it's uncrackable, ha ha!

baddy: Well I got this knife to your throat that's attached to the USB key that says you're going to give me the information.

I don't think they thought this through.

So your data will be safe for min 2hours?

What are they trying to say?
That it is takes more than 2 hours?
I already feel it is very secure ;-)

They should let you have it for a few weeks at least. And even then I don't think that is secure enough for anyone.
