Sony netboook is glimpsed online

Thanks Tesco Direct
Thu Mar 04 2010, 13:42

WHILE JAPANESE consumer electronics outfit Sony hasn't officially made any announcements about its M-Series netboook, having given out only its name, rank and model number, other enterprising outlets haven't been quite as retiicent.

So thank you Tesco Direct for advertising kit that you haven't even got through the door yet. The only information Tesco Direct has put up on its site are some specifications and features. We can tell you that the Sony VPC-M11M1E/B netboook has a black chassis and a tiny 10.1-inch screen. Sony has kept the cost and processor speed down with an Intel Atom N450 chip running at 1.66GHz and it has 1GB of RAM and a 250GB HDD. The only other info we can glean from Tesco is that it will be loaded with Windows 7 Starter and cost £299.

From the five image shots on the site, the M-Series VAIO netboook also looks exactly like the Sony VAIO W series, so it'll be interesting to see what it will be like when we get to review one.

Anyway, we're still surprised to see Sony fight it out with its premium VIAO brand in the cut-throat netboook space.

We seem to recall Sony producing ultra-mobile VAIO notebooks about ten years ago. The only difference then was that they cost upwards of £1,500. Ouch. µ

rubbish vaio and sony goods

I am a not so proud owner of a vaio laptop, I have had problems with their so called customer service department!
It took me nearly a month get the rubbish Blu-Ray Drive replaced under Warranty!
Their slogan in the UK is "Be Pampered by the Best Service Around" is like sony's new motto "Make.Believe"!
I have struggled with their customer service department for nearly month to cure software problems, they have not cured my problems after more than three weeks and at one point one of their robots (member of staff) accused me of using a pirated copy of vista, which is rather strange because vaio head office in Belgium supplied it to me?
When my Warranty Period ends I will be selling it, but not to my friends because I do not want to lose them!

My Advice to anybody thinking of buying a vaio, DO NOT", I have purchased three sony items of equipment and all have proved be defective!

Yours an anti sony ex-customer...

ooh - and ESATA

You failed to mention the External SATA interface, listed as a Feature on the left hand side panel of the Tesco site.
That sounds a handy extra

Authorities in several countries raided Megaupload recently, shut down all of its services, seized hundreds of servers and arrested several of its executives on criminal charges.

Do you think the move was justified?
